what if I do not replace oscillator on NTSC A500?
Simple Q: so I got this mint NTSC A500, but would like to convert it to PAL.
Agnus wise I am fine, it's a 8372A so need to cut a jumper to set it to PAL mode. (or if using Kickstart 3.1 ROM (as I have a spare kickstart ROM), do I still need to cut a jumper as you can normally select NTSC/PAL on early startup screen with more recent kickstarts) But the oscillator is a 28.6363MHz one, and my other (PAL) A500 has a 28.37516MHz one. What happens if I do not change this part? or is it really mandatory to desolder it and put a PAL one in there? If so I need to get my hands on a PAL oscillator, and improve my soldering skills! |

It is not mandatory, but the video timing will be a bit off. I'd change it personally. :-)
