Gods: Amiga vs Sega vs Nintendo
I saw
[ Show youtube player ] the other day, in which the reviewer thinks the Sega Genesis version of Gods is awful; too hard, poor controller response.
I played Gods a little bit on Amiga back in the day but was never very good at it (and/or maybe I had a bad crack). But I did like the graphical style. So, how does the Amiga version's difficulty compare with that of the console versions? I'm assuming the Bitmap Brothers originally developed Gods on PAL machines, so the US/NTSC Sega and Nintendo versions will play 20% faster because of the 60Hz frame rate. That could partly explain why they are harder. The graphics of the Super NES version are stretched horizontally (due to the SNES's lower horizontal resolution, 256 vs 320 pixels). A smaller part of the playfield showing on screen could be another reason for extra difficulty for the SNES version at least. Taking those two points, perhaps the best console version to play would be the PAL Mega Drive version? |

Another Gods thread. We had a few.
I don't like the console versions. Yes, the NTSC versions are too fast. Also the games still doesn't run in 50/60fps more like 25/30fps. The ingame music is very annoying and the colour palette of the SNES version ist questionable. |

It's like music in console version is just space filler as some publisher requested, it may be Jingle Bells too.

MD PAL is indeed the best choice, if you really have to play a console port.

I remember Gods getting pretty good reviews on the Amiga. Is the Sega version gameplay any worse than the Amiga, or was the YouTube reviewer maybe just expecting more fluid 60fps gameplay like many other console titles?

The gameplay is pretty good imo. The walking animation "looks" a bit faster, but it isn't really that fast in PAL compared to the Amiga version (maybe a 1-2 frames faster). Jumping is probably a bit better on the console, there was this little delay in the 16-bit Computer versions.

The voice of the reviewer is annoying and also he is just loser. I agree - the game is too way fast for Genesis, but critisize it for its puzzles and / or bad weapons choice in a shop? The way he plays it just drives me crazy - for example he sees an enemy beneath, he is able to kill him with spear, but he runs into him instead? No, he is just lamer.
Very bad review by very incompetent player. |

Played it today for a couple of hours and got the furthest I've EVER been... Level 3 World 3 or is it World 3 Level 3 lol either way love it at the original speed... that fast forward look of most console versions makes it look like a Benny Hill skit rofl

Heh, definitely. I wonder if anyone's ever tried hacking/patching the Sega version to slow the gameplay down by about 50%?
