at my Wits End, New Membrane for A500 and Keyboard Still not Fixed :-(

Hi There People I was just wondering if I am Missing something or just being Plain Stupid but I bought a new Membrane for my A500 as Return, Enter and Right Shift Doesn't Work and is Still Exactly the Same now with my New membrane in. Could I try anything else that may fix this?

Thanks

Hmmmm, well the membrane is usually the problem, but a problem with the membrane connector on the keyboard PCB, or with the keyboard controller IC, could have the same effect. Check for bad solder joints or cracked traces on the PCB itself. It's entirely possible that you have a faulty controller chip.

is the Controller Chip Attached to the Keyboard itself? I had a bit of luck with the enter key that has come back to life just no Right Shift or Return Still lol but I will check the solder joints now. The membrane is now brand new so I have eradicated one problem at least

Going to try the old membrane in another a500 with a completely unresponsive keyboard as I am thinking now that this membrane may still be ok

I Swapped the Keyboard Controller over From another and Return and Right shift are still the only ones not working. Should my next port of Call be to have a look at the Contact pad Beneath the Keys themselves?

You could also try some electrical contact cleaner spray. Just make sure you use the kind that will not harm plastic.

Sweet Sounds like it's a tired old keyboard, maybe had a couple of drinks poured over it at some point. Glad it's sorted now anyway!

The old paper trick works well here.

If the rubber pads connected to the key plunger are shiny, use a piece of paper from your printer (fold it a few times so that there are no sharp edges), wipe the rubber pad with the paper until it is no longer shiny. Clean off any paper dust with compressed air, be sure there is no dust on the membrane, reassemble.
