Problem reading old amiga hd drive.

Hello everybody,

I'm trying to replace the 250MB harddisk (a1200) for a 3.2Gb version. I took out the original HD and tried to read it with WinUAE 1.2 (latest version). Now I have following problem, maybe somebody can help me?

1) I have put the HD in my PC and XP recognized a Seagate HD, but it does not list it ! That is just right... But under WinUAE I can add the drive
with "add harddrive" and it lists the seagate drive with the exact size.
Also it is possible to create a backup of it.

But now I would like to boot it. It was build in 2 partitions SDH0: and DH1:
(The systems boots from the first partition) In Winuae it says add the harddisk options: Device n/a Volume n/a Boot n/a...
The harddisk should work, why does it not?

Thanks,

Maurice

That's not ok. If you add the harddrive, partitions are recognised automatically, you cannot enter any data like this. When using a HDF (image of the drive), the same applies. Only if you made a backup of only one partition (e.g. with AmigaExplorer), then you should enter the data. But if you made a backup of the entire drive with all its partitions (new option in WinUAE 1.2 and I assume you used this) it should automatically switch into RDB mode and you should not be able to enter any other data. It should look exactly as if you added the real drive.

Hello Thomas,

At this moment the Amiga is working with that 250MB Harddrive ! I'm looking at the workbench at this moment via the TV tuner card of my PC (how cool is that: Amiga Picture in PC). So the harddrive is ok.

So I think it's a problem with WinUAE, because Windows XP did see the harddrive when I first plugged it in.
