And naturally every TCP/IP stack supports SLIP. It's a SANA-2 device like anything else, and your stack doesn't know or care if your SANA-2 device is SLIP, PPP, ethernet or even Arcnet.

Thanks, now in addition to reliving the Amiga's glory days on my A1200 I can also relive the wonderful experience of surfing the web at dial-up speeds! LOL!

Joking aside, there's something very satisfying about getting a 25 year old computer working with the internet and other modern technologies.

If he is using the built in Amiga serial port, you can not really expect anything faster than 57600 baud, 115200 baud if you are very fortunate, so around 5-6kB/sec tops (or 11kB/sec with 115200) - a fraction of what you can get with Plipbox. Also the serial port is a CPU drain compared to the parallel port.

I've only run it at 19200 since that is the default speed and all my Amigas have ethernet or wifi cards, so it was more of an academic pursuit for me. There is also the problem that the small ESP cards I've been using don't support hardware handshaking, so practical speed is limited unless you use a bigger card with RTS/CTS support.

I got the entire idea from Atari-forum, and on the ST, PLIP is not an option. One advantage of this construction over the Plipbox is that this one is extremely small, extremely cheap and super-easy to build.

The price and availability of components is also what attracted me. It's nigh impossible to find wireless NIC's for A1200's and I use my PCMCIA port for file transfers via a CF card anyway. I know my A1200 isn't well suited for web surfing, but that isn't the A1200's fault. But it's nice to at least be able to surf some simple sites and download things via FTP and HTTP instead of having to use the sneaker net.

I've seen the E8266 going for as little as .85 cents in some places and an RS232/TTL board going for as little as $2 US.

I'm surprised that none of the Atari guys have figured out how to get a Plipbox working on Ataris. Does it lack a driver or is there a hardware issue or both?

Nigh impossible? There's a user here on EAB who sells them almost as cheaply as the parts cost for an ESP dongle.

I'm not sure if there's a PLIP driver for the Atari, but even if there is one, I've got an ethernet adapter for the ROM port from Lotharek for an affordable price. Plipboxes aren't exactly cheap, and a bit kludgy.

You can also follow this guy on twitter to see when he will make more. I don't know if this is compatible wth the firmware linked further up but it does have solder pads to enable rtc/cts. It's the same one I have but I use mine for the TI-99/4a. I'm currently awaiting my SDNet adaptor to arrive so the wifi232 is less important on Amiga at the moment, for me anyway.

What would I need to cobble together to get this working on my CD32? Presumably I can use the serial port from the Aux connector, but that's 5V inverted TTL, right?

Thanks Supa. This then isnt a Wifi Modem same as the others cos it needs Networking set up too?

Do you know of any OPEN source designs that dont need networking presumably using BoZimmermans firmware???
