DevPac 3.xx Includes

Hello,

i am new to this forum and new to asm coding on the amiga. I have downloaded and installed devpac 3.18 (at the moment just using winuae but i will have a nice 1200 machine by next week. My old 500 got lost somehow...)

When i start up DevPac and assemble one of the example programs that come with DevPac 3.18 (such as helloworld.s) a window with the message "Please insert volume Include 3.1 in any drive" pops up.

I am not sure what it means as i am pretty new to programming on the amiga. Does this mean i am missing some header files for DevPac or for my workbench ?

In both cases, where can i get the files that i need for assembler coding using DevPac 3.x

thanks for your help

Is the source file setting the INCDIR to Include3.1: ? You need to set the include path to where your include files are located on your HD. These files should come with your DevPac setup.

If you have them there should be a folder with lots of other folders inside: hardware, graphics, exec etc. In these folders are lots of .i files. Basically the file you are assembling is trying to find these files.

to be honest, i have been lurking around here since 1-2 ys. but never registered. until today so yes, ill be back.

one more question, i noticed that the version you uploaded to the zone is 3.02. i guess this also requires to use devpac 3.02 instead of 3.18, right ? do you know the differences between the two versions ? just some eye-candy (ui, scrollbars, etc) or any stuff thats worth it ?

The includes are also for 3.18 The main program was updated, but the includes stayed the same. Just give it a try with 3.18

Sorry for digging out this old post...

Just to clarify - is there really a disk called "Include3.1"? Because I read somewhere that the whole package consists of 4 disks: 2 versions of the main program (one for kick1.3 & one for kick2.0+) and the appropriate include disks "Include1.3" & "Include2.0". However, DevPack 3.18 keeps asking for that damn Include3.1 which confuses me a little after all I've heard. If this disk really exists could someone put it in the zone? Include2.0 was easy to find, but the 3.1 remains a mystery.

Hi pintcat,

DevPack 3.18 uses the same Includes disk as version 3.02.

I can upload that disk to the Zone for you, but the filename suggests that the disk volume name is indeed "Include2.0".

If the installation still balks because of the Include2.0 volume name, then just rename the disk to "Include3.1".

Uploading the file to the Zone for you now.

Edit: Zoned!

Sorry to mention it, but why upload stuff that's already on the file server and well explained in this thread prowler? I guess the question was about the actual 3.18 include disk which had the '3.1' name.

I don't think there ever was a DevPack includes disk with the Include3.1 name.

I think that if pintcat renames his existing "Include2.0" disk to "Include3.1", then all will be well.

I uploaded the file to the Zone simply because pintcat requested it that way and nobody else had replied.

And if I had renamed the disk to "Include3.1" before uploading it, no-one would have been any the wiser (for a while at least... ).

I guess there is an actual disk with the 'includes3.1' name if the DevPac 3.18 release asks for it. Since noone complained about the so far given advice to use the older includes disk, there seems to be no problem, but them again who knows if there isn't an updated version of the include disk for 3.18.

If such a disk exists, then I imagine the only difference is in the volume name.

Nobody else has mentioned this problem after requesting the 'DevPack 3.18 Includes disk" and being provided with that which I have uploaded. So I guess that it must have occurred to them to simply rename it.

And perhaps the fact that the companion disk to the DevPack 3.18 Program disk was not suitably renamed was just an oversight which is brought to the attention of the user by means of an addendum to the manual.

Given the 3.18 is three years 'younger' than the include disk, there might be some updated/added libraries and since pintcat exactly asked for it, I would really like to see if someone here has it (given that the name would change the CRC32 of the ADF... which it does )
