OSSC, Monitor, MiSTer or AGA?

Hi Guys,

No idea if this is in the right place?

I am just getting back in to my Amiga and love it, I am currently playing with a gotek and waiting for my memory expansion to arrive on my A1200, I am also waiting for my A600 board to come back from capping (then the A1200 will need to go off!). I will mainly be gaming but fancy getting in to some Amiga Dos and maybe some BASIC programming!

I am struggling though for space, I have my main PC connected up to a nice ultrawide monitor and then above that I have a nice 4K display which is also on my PC, the Amiga is set to the side on a 19" LCD TV connected via scart and well what can I say I am not overly impressed with the picture quality, I have 3 cables 2 from ebay and 1 from AmigaKit, the amigakit cable is superior but I still get some artifacting on the screen.

I was thinking I would go for an OSSC and convert the scart to HDMI and use the scandoubler features, this would mean I could use either machine. I then looked around and BenQ still do the BL702A monitor but this will still take up real estate in an already cramped office. I noticed a thread about MiSTer and thought it was a good idea if I could find some broken hardware, I am not sure about this, the project sounds great and I could use multiple cores but is it cheating and is it as good as the real thing? Finally an AGA MK3 with HDMI out, I am not even sure if you can output HDMI in all modes or only workbench?

So what should I go for, what are the benefits over one or the other?

Sadly his webpage is not working and its only sold through the A1k forum it seems ... Anyone used it ? Its better than a ossc ?

Hi,

Yes MiSTer does make a very good alternative to a real classic Amiga if you are tight on space (or money!).

They have recently added RTG support so you can have a nice 32bit high resolution workbench and seamlessly switch over to PAL for running games smoothly.

It feels and sounds just like having a real A1200 to me and I have had many A1200's in my time so I have a good idea about this

Oh, boy. 190Euro. And I thought spending 80E on RGB for my 48k Spectrum was quite mad.

I am an OSSC owner (among other scalers) and while I'm happy with it, I want to find an Amiga specific solution that I can finally recommend to non-technical users with zero caveats.

So the benefit I see here: zero configuration, Amiga specific.

Well, it deinterlaces the interlaced video modes, so no flickering.
Also it’s really easy to setup and have an amazing image.
On the other hand, it does support fewer video modes, so no SuperHighres and I think no modes like HighGfx, but SuperPlus(800x600@16 on ECS or 256 colors on AGA) is quite nice.
On BigBox Amigas it is not that practical, as you can’t reach the setting dial very well. On the 500/1200 that’s no problem.
What I wish for, are separate resolution profiles for NTSC and Pal screenmodes. Then the D520 might replace my Indivision V2.

I think the author was active on this forum back then. This was always a diy project, now his domain seems to have expired.

He mentioned in the description, that the image quality was not the best. :-) Seems the solution made a forced deinterlace instead of linedoubling progressive modes. That will give you combing.

Well, the D520 seems a better solution overall anyway... Analog out aside!
