Rick Dangerous: is this an unknown version ?

Hello,

I had kept since my departure from the Amiga a version of Rick Dangerous with invincibility by pressing the "HELP" key as for the versions with the trainer by Weetibix, and I noticed that mine didn't had no "color stripes" when unpacking the game and was not the same size (larger) as the other cracked versions, if mine is indeed a cracked version.

I couldn't find it anywhere, neither in the ADFs, nor in the IPFs... I'll spare you the SHA1 of mine for a possible comparison with yours:

591c8a19d5cfadb6e163d82e401c2ba6e5439bb1

Thank you

Is it a genuine disk though? Either printing on the disk or has a printed disk label stuck to it?

I just have the file that I kept that I had with other cracked games when I had my A500. It was in 1990...

So single filed and cracked then. Put it in the Zone, i'm sure someone will inspect it and find out if it's an unknown version or not!

Thank you. What do you call the Zone ?

The discussion just for that. I don't have the rights at the moment.

Hi New Sky, thanks for the upload!

A minor detail, you're not supposed to link in a post any of the various files from "The Zone!". Just say "it's in the Zone" usually followed by "enjoy!" and then concerned members will grab it from there, in "http" mode. You can click on "The Zone!" link (see above, between Donate (50/20) and Log out links). You will notice it's available on top of the list of Zoned content (for 60 days, and counting).

Version uploaded by New Sky is the Weetibix trained version

I suspect its an AGA fixed version as I think the Weetibix trainer code is a bit buggy on faster processors, and also the file is packed internally with Stonecracker which wasn't available when Rick Dangerous was first released.

Someone has done their own code to relocate and depack presumably in a nicer way than Weetibix did back in the day, the Weetibix trainer menu is still located at the end of the file once depack in memory at $70600 but the code at the end of the depack routine bypasses it completely to simply let the game relocate to the correct address and then execute.

You can change the JMP to $70600 in the file and it restores the Weetibix trainer menu.

Thanks for the answers. I put the link of the Zone instead of that of the file in my previous message.

Thank you for all these explanations !

So, it is possible that I took it over when I switched to the A1200 and therefore had this version.

The question is, how did you get this version? Galahad has explained it's been modified by someone who knew what they were doing, but modified by who and when?

Hello,

From what I remember, I never had any version other than a version with the trainer of the "HELP" key, whether on my A500 at the end of 1989 or at the end of 1992 for the A1200. I had this with other craked games.

I have a vague memory that it comes from a compilation, but I don't remember with which other games. I searched in the TOSEC without finding anything...

I even wonder why the date of the file is in 1989, given the explanations of Galahad/FLT (in reference to Stonecracker which was not available at that date) ? Is the date of the file wrong and that I got it right after Stonecracker was released in 1990 ? It seems possible.

Is it possible to know the version with which the program was compressed ? Will I have resumed the game by returning to Amiga (UAE / WinUAE, 1996 / 1997) and that this version dates from this moment, so after the release of Stonecracker ? That seems less possible to me as an explanation.

Note: the game seems "AGA" compatible only by activating the "OCS / ECS" mode

And it's not me who doesn't know the programming that could have touched it.

The file date is wrong, the binary has been crunched with Stone Cracker 4.01 which was released in 1992.

Pretty sure this came on a compilation disc with Typhoon Thompson and one other game (Stunt car racer maybe) but not 100% sure. I can remember the help cheat and Typhoon Thompson on the compilation

Thanks to you two !

So to keep it simple, I had Rick Dangerous with the trainer from Weetibix (infinite lives...) and came across this version later just before I got the 1200.

@SuperFuryAnimal

For the compilation, my memories are not so bad. Typhoon Thompson, I didn't know...

Did you find it on the net ?

I have nothing in my TOSEC (maybe too old ?) or is it missing a part ?

It's not in TOSEC apparently, and it might have been detached from said compilation by some spreader. The fact that it's lacking a cracktro implies it's not in its original form anyway. Usually, cracktros from individual releases are removed when they're problematic (garbled graphics on later machines etc). You may PM Crashdisk (a fellow Frenchman) if you believe TOSEC followers would benefit from having access to this specific version.

Ask him too if he enjoys playing beach volley on occasion, he should take the hint .

Oh by the way, there's no "older" TOSEC (I mean, conceptually), TOSEC is always current (as per the .DAT files that are regularly posted on tosec.org) and always work-in-progress.
