Times like these
In the UK at the moment, we are experiencing a rather extreme heatwave. It's times like this I wish I had genuine Amiga hardware, as my water cooled PC kicks loads of heat into my flat. I am sure running a 1200 would be a lot cooler.
I hope everyone here is managing to keep cool with this weather and you are well hydrated too. |

I'm surviving by arriving at work before nine whilst it's still relatively cool outside and then spending all day shivering to death, huddled up in a hoody for fear of hyperthermia. I'm not kidding, our aircon is sufficiently powerful to keep the Fortress of Solitude frozen solid.

Here in South Texas we have a heatwave that started in early May 2022. The daytime temps are between 32c to 42c daily and there is no end in sight. There was only a few days break here and there, with few scattered showers.

I'll stick with our winter down here thanks. Can handle the cool weather better than the heat.

Rather don't have genuine hardware during times like these. I don't dare turn on 30-35 year old expensive / rare hardware ... afraid of overheating. Especially the accelerator cards

optimize the code so it runs quicker and saves energy and heat dissipation. Save the planet.

Here in Portugal we had the worst heatwave I can remember of. More than one week with plus 40 degrees. Good thing I installed AC 2 years ago. That bzzzz sound while I'm falling asleep is incredibly soothing.
Still...doesn't fix the issues with wildfires and droughts. There was always a smell of burnt wood in the air. And just to think this is getting worse and worse. Summers used to be very mild around these parts when I was younger. I had to go significantly inland to experience uncomfortable heat |

Here in Glasgow we're escaping the worst of the UK heat, though it was still pretty heavy feeling yesterday and peaked around 30 degrees. Not fun, especially when most homes don't have air conditioning and are designed to keep in as much heat as possible. But it's far more pleasant today thankfully, with a lovely breeze blowing. I really feel for people down south and in mainland Europe with temperatures >40 degrees.

Raspberry Pi and MiSTer FPGA are not generating a lot of heat, so there you go... problem solved. Environment friendly solution.
BTW, was in NYC last couple of days, heat is one thing, high humidity completely another thing. In Michigan we have heat and high humidity (thanks to thousands of lakes around here), but nothing to compare to NYC. |

In the top floor of my flat in the UK, i have had aircon on all day for 2-3 days now, and its still 24 degrees inside, down from 26. I spend most of my day sat right next to it to get all the chilly cool air before it superheats in mere moments It's only a smallish portable aircon i have, but "usually" it keeps the room chilly-af, not now in recent weather however.
Kinda wish the whole steam deck shortage situation would resolve itsself soon(tm) so i could sit/lie-down and retro away while sweating my b....socks off. |

I use an air cooler, which is a cheap & (much) less effective alternative to aircon. It is equipped with a fan featuring a timer, a "natural breeze" mode and internal oscillation (lots of these on Amazon). The water tank needs to be refilled about twice a day during such heatwaves. Goes to the head after a few hours of steady use though.
I also use an air humidifier which is overhanging above the headboard (unlike the air cooler, can't use tap water with that one). Improves indoor air quality, also helps fighting to some extend cooking fumes taking place in the evening because of hash houses down below expelling smoke directly outside in the direction of the building. Produces nice and soothing plumes of mist when sleeping in. Requires a little maintenance. I am curious, do you folks experience shortage of certain grocery products in high demand in "times like these" ? As of late, I had no other choice but buying this Bulgarian made mustard at the local supermarket. Tastes much sweeter than standard "de Dijon" mustard. Was 38degrees here but over 40 in my house, first time I've ever heard the fan come on in my Macbook M1 Max during normal use.
It's the closest you'll get to a fanless high powered computer these days! |

Where I live its the norm every summer to hover around 40 deg.
Thats why most people here in Aust have aircons/reverse cycle. The highest it ever got here a few years ago where I live was 46.6 deg! I hate the heat. My ancestry is Hungary. A much cooler place normally. |
