That depends on which FTP client you are using. If you're using FileZilla, I imagine you log in with your rmcin329 account, go into the ~Uploads folder and just right click empty space. Should be a "create folder" or similar option there. Create a folder called rmcin329 and you should have full access in it. However, while I can see that you've created your account, you have never logged in with it so you are probably still logging in with the anonymous "ftp" account which would explain why you can not create folders. Make sure to log in with the rmcin329 username and the password you chose while creating it. |

It is NOT a way to try to enforce rules as that is totally up to the uploader to follow. Welcome message on the FTP updated to reflect this. Last edited by Turran; 19 July 2022 at 15:10. |

Is the TURRAN FTP moving to Azure? I thought about it. With power costing so much these days, it would help if I could move the whole thing into the cloud.
Especially since the hardware could use a refresh soon. I tried it. Setup a linux machine in Azure with 8TB disk. Seemed like it would work just fine as everything worked and I managed to score a static IP etc. It would not cost that much either. $10 to $20 a month. Then I started reading about data transfer costs... hm At the bottom of this chart, we can read about it Check the "Internet Egress (Routed via Routing preference transit ISP network)". https://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/pr...ils/bandwidth/ Then I had another look at how much data is actually transferred. Last month alone, the anonymous FTP account downloaded 16481 GiB. So lets withdraw 100GB from that since that is free each month. 16381 GiB to pay for at $0.08 per GiB. 16381 * 0.08 = $1310 PER MONTH. (Sure, price goes down to $0.065 between 10 TiB and 40 TiB so a bit less, but for simplicity sake we'll use 0.08) And that's for the anonymous account only. We can add another TiB of traffic for the registered accounts. So unless I misunderstood something, no, Turran FTP will not move to Azure. Shame as that would have been a lot easier for me. Can you read about this somewhere when setting things up? No, not really. There is a nice calculator where you can see exactly what the hardware you have going is costing but that does not take outgoing traffic into account. Incoming traffic is free though.. that's something. Oh yeah, and traffic is steadily going up. We are at 18945 GiB downloaded for the anonymous account so far in July. Up nearly 3 TiB from last month. Last edited by Turran; 27 July 2022 at 14:39. |

Amazon S3 for storage?
I don't know the specific numbers for your server, but using the AWS calculator, I get around $166 USD/month with the following: Storage: 5TB/month Data returned: 5TB/month PUT, COPY, POST, LIST requests: 1,000,000 GET, SELECT, and all other requests: 100,000,000 This is obviously just storage so if you need computing time and so on, add EC2 to the calculator, etc. They've got a million services that do a million different things. |

That is sadly still to much money. And we need a data returned of at least 20TB to meet the needs of today.
I'll just keep it here, thanks =) Also, I lied before when I said it would cost 10-20 $ a month for the virtual machine. With 8TB of storage, the cost per day runs away fast. Its in SEK, but just divide it by 10 to get the number in USD. Aprox $100 for 4 days of operation. That was having the virtual machine on for ~4 days. Imagine if I ran that 24/7. This is without the outgoing traffic cost I mentioned in the previous post, so we'd have to add that as well. Last edited by Turran; 28 July 2022 at 10:22. |

Excuse me, could someone tell me how to proceed with the files: WinUAE, WinUAE.ini, WinUAE.download, Setup.exe, downloadable from the same folder as the WinUAE Packs (Part01-14)?

Jottacloud / Elgiganten Cloud
I noticed that you moved the ftp mirror over to Jottacloud (and also reached their "unlimited limit")..
I have been a 'Jottacloud' user (Elgiganten branded) for many years, and have not hit any limit of the unlimited service (750kr/Ã¥r, yet not reached 75TB of stored crap).. Uploading at my full ISP speed (of currently 250Mbit, but have alsi had it tested with 500 and 1000, reaching speeds above 300Mbit upload). But that's not the reason for my reply.. Have you found a way of directly link a file inside a folder already shared (at an earlier level) ? I've done some digging which might interest you https://tech.webit.nu/jottacloud-secrets/ I did not reach the final goal of being able to create a direct link to a file, only knowing its md5 and possibly more known fields in the database, but what I found out may be useful anyway (I have some more undocumented findings to share when time allows). You can easily extract an index with the md5sums from the database.. /PeO Quote:

I have not done much testing there. After I found out that it only lists 1000 files max in any single folder when sharing, I kinda stopped looking into it until they fixed it. Its in their pipeline. But also, since I enabled browsing the FTP through HTTP ( https://grandis.nu/turran/FTP ), I've considered JottaCloud as only a backup more than anything. Its interesting that you have not reached their transfer speed cap though. I've kept under 5TB on it for that reason alone. I'll try going above it and see what happens =) Last edited by Turran; 22 August 2022 at 11:16. |

Speed (right now, and I did not wait for the right moment, just waited past "checksumming" of the second file, had a single-file upload speed of about 200Mbit):
File limit .. (if any), reached 7000 selected files from exodos collection (maybe too precise to not be a limit, but the first is "'Nam" and the last is visible here) No limit (but maybe incomplete exodos) The downside with Elgiganten branded Jotta is that they do not have any backup client for Linux. rclone worked some time ago, but I haven't checked recently. Ah, have to test that too.. .Did a test when logged in as admin/owner of the files.. The big Tosec-adf folder with 23000+ files failed to be listed, got "Out of memory" (as expected) at an unknown massive amount of files..
Works fine (exodos, 7000 files) as an anonymous user too: https://cloud.elgiganten.se/p/peoyli...9c6ec81d9/list Hmm.. browser issue ? I can list all files in "Tosec/Applications [ADF]" on your jottacloud share (but if I select them all, it will just say "ALL FILES" above).. Last edited by peo; 22 August 2022 at 15:16. |

Perhaps disabling anonymous download would be a way forward? 20TB per month sounds insane considering how small Amiga games/utils are on average (a few MB), almost as if some idiot download all of it, the whole site every month, over and over. Last edited by modrobert; 22 August 2022 at 20:16. |

I do too. Cost reasons, speed reasons, and selfishly, you would be able to give more favourable limits to the regulars. Most of us should pretty much have most of what we need by now, and aren't hammering the server at all...

Not sure if Turran has statistics about it, but I could imagine direct links from 'Old Games Finder' add to the traffic. Maybe just block that for a start?

Most of the traffic from the anonymous accounts are actually just as described. There is always a few anonymous ones downloading 24/7, or at least trying to. I have a few checks that bans anonymous ones of they stay on for too long or download too much but considering traffic is still going up per month, its not very effective. It only bans for about a week or so and there are currently ~45 IPs temporarily banned.
Anyway, it does not bother me as much as long as I have the data plan I do since it does not really cost me anything. It just prevents me from moving to cloud based. It does not really affect you guys either since I have a 10GB internet connection. Its spinning hard drives that is the current bottleneck =) And I don't want to disable such an easy way to get WHDLoad games etc for those true Amiga people. Just the constant 24/7 "I gotto get it all!" that bugs me a bit as there is no reason for it. By the time you've downloaded the entire TOSEC, changing IPs because you got banned 20 times, the TOSEC version will be obsolete anyway =) I could always just hide TOSEC and BBS backups etc from anonymous users again if I need to but then I'd had to hide it from the web version as well.. meh, let them have it =) Last edited by Turran; 24 August 2022 at 17:39. |

Maybe cap anonymous users per IP at 1 GB per month or less. That would most likely make the 24/7 approach less feasible while still allowing 'casual' users to download one or two bigger files per month.
