Make an Internal Floppy drive External?

I'd be surprised after all these years, but has anyone made a cable to connect an amiga (internal) floppy disk to the floppy drive port on an amiga? I recently added an a1200 to my family of amigas and find I'd like an external floppy disk for it. People selling them used at the usual sources want more for them than they cost new, so I'm investigating.

If someone else has done it, then it will save me a bunch of time...

As far as I know any such device requires a bunch of electronics at the drive end of the cable. I have a few external drives and all of them have a internal PCB that sits in-between the cable and the drive, this PCB also contains the floppy on/off switch.
The easiest way would be to find an old non working external drive and replace the mechanism with a working drive.

Thanks. I had a feeling there was a bit more to it than just a cable with some power adjustment circuitry...

Yeah the electronics part seems to have a major role in the drive connection.
Broken external floppy's appear on Amibay on occasion, I got one from there myself a couple years ago.
You could keep an eye out on there or post a wanted ad.

I bought one from amigastore.eu recently when purchasing a Gotek drive. I've not tried it out yet as I have been using the Gotek internally, but I imagine it will work for your needs:

If you are a DIY kind of person, I see you can get the above cheaper from ebay:

Some floppy drives require 12V - so for any adapters you use, make sure it can supply 12V too, if that drive requires it.

Here is another floppy drive adapter, which some are based on:
