Retro Wars cut off bottom of screen

I'm trying to play Retro Wars on my CDTV. All other PAL titles run fine that I have tried, but for some reason from right below the text line that says "Look at Imperial Officer", for example, it's just black space, and the mouse cursor disappears below this line.

Can you explain what's going on? It's an unexpanded CDTV with 1mb of RAM.

I'm sort of surprised, as I tried several recent PAL demos and games that do not work in NTSC mode, and they run fine.

Any suggestions?

You should be surprised that PAL software runs fine in your NTSC machine, not the other way around, really.

PAL vs NTSC is not only about frequency, but also about number of horizontal rows. PAL has 256 while NTSC has 200 only. Picture compatibility with american standart is the reason why many european games uses only upper 200 rows, although they are supposed for PAL Amigas. In USA the game runs faster than it should, but you can see the whole picture at least.

Retro Wars just utilises all the 256 rows.

Never mind, apparently this has something to do with Degrader. I desoldered the NTSC/PAL jumper JP11 because I got sick of (and really didn’t need to be using) Degrader and it’s showing the bottom of the screen now.
