Thimbleweed Park - the return of our childhood

[ Show youtube player ]

In an age where all classics need to be modernized, then all of a sudden a wet dream like this pops up: a new SCUMM-like game, with the exact graphical style and interface of Maniac Mansion and Zak - from the very people who made those games.

On kickstarter of course. Its already half-way so I see little reason for this project not to see the light of day.

Looks like it could be a lot of fun. I hope that budget goal and the 1.5 years development time doesn't sink it.

I hope it'll be as good as the timeless classics that came before it

Well the minimum backing has been reached already so the game is certainly going to exist, now lets see if they collect enough to make it full-talky

Pledged on it a few days ago. I can't believe how fast the pledges went up, it wasn't even at it's bottom tier when I pledged, and now look, it's still climbing.

People must really, really, really want games that look like they're from the 80's I hope this sets an example and we can see more of these epic fan-services.

Of course then you also have to wade through the brain-dead responses of the young generation. "GAMES MUST HAVE PS4 GRAPHICS, THIS IS RETARDED"... Sigh.

It's what they're used to though, that's the problem. Most of them have probably never played anything with content and a story-line, but that part of games seems to have disappeared in-to the mists of time and replaced by visuals only.

Backed. And the game is fully funded so it will happen. I do hope they make the Talkies stretched goal.

It looks just my kinda thing. I love lucas-arts point-n-click adventure puzzle games. I think "The Dig" was one of my favourites, combining Sci-fi with great story and good acting plus the puzzles were just the right level.

I am now going to play through Grim Fandango or Full Throttle to try to satisfy my addiction!

Or maybe Deponia/Chaos on Deponia/Goodbye Deponia

OOo.. or maybe .... Bladerunner 1997, I never played that... sooo many point-n-click titles I seem to have missed

Note that Grim Fandango is also getting a makeover through Double Fine. Not sure if it is going to be any good since that studio is creating modernized titles rather than reviving classic formulas.

(modernize = make "accessible")

$150 just to get a boxed copy? Sometimes I wonder if it should be renamed ConStarter!!

How is it conning in any way? You pay it willingly or you don't. There are people who back for a thousand bucks just to support the devs.

I chipped in for this! Wondering if I should submit my name as Zak McKracken for the phone book entry...

I've seen some articles now - the clever little bastards are just brushing up the original game itself a little and re-releasing it for PS4 and Vita and later PC, Mac, Linux. Its another Final Fantasy 7 in the making.

Not that I personally care, I'll buy a version compatible with modern hardware.

Yeah but that one I'm not too sure about how it will work out as it is a classic pixel art game - a damned good one too. Perhaps its going to be done like the Monkey Island games - that would be more than okay.

There were some great Scumm games on Amiga. Still can't believe the number of disks that came with Monkey Island 2!
