PC<> miggy file transfers
does anyone else have an issue with parallel cable hookup`s to the miggy and 30 character max filenames. As i`m hitting just that here, from basic win98 install, only video drivers installed and the ami<>pc software and when i transfer files across to the miggy, i`m getting 30 characters max and the rest is being discarded. anybody got any solutions to this.

you're lucky, I used to only get the old DOS 8.3 filename format - which caused me SOOOO much hassle.
Here's what you do.... Get WinRAR, archive all your files up into a nice little archive, and use UnRAR (for the Amiga) to unarchive them. If you select "store files" at the PC end of things, it won't take UnRAR too long to extract them either. Works for me dude |

FFS only supports 30 character filenames.
For longer names, take a look at pfs3 or sfs. At least pfs(3) requires you to either format the partition with a special tool or you can also set the filename max size separately. This however doesn't solve the problem of some software not understanding the >30 char names... :-( You might have to rename them in WB in order to be able to manipulate them sometimes. |

FFS only supports 30 max chars, ok i`m a little rusty here with the miggy not having owned or used one for 8 years now, my memory seems to recall a 255 max limit but there again i was using AFS at the time for both the miggy and my then zip drive also. the other two formats you mentioned i`ve not come across before now, but i`ll look into those thanx for the tip jobe
