Channel 4: How Videogames Changed the World, 30th Nov UK
In a special games night this Saturday (30th Nov) on Channel 4 (UK) Charlie Brooker will be exploring the history of videogames and how it's changing how we work, communicate and play. Hopefully it will be something complementary to the gaming world with all the recent popularity of new next gen console, it looks like he'll be having contribution from Jonathan Ross and Dara O'Briain. Also its a 2hr show. Followed by Indi Game: The Movie
Edit: If a moderator could move this into Retro Gaming General Discussion! sorry Thanks Last edited by DonAmiga; 26 November 2013 at 11:50. Reason: request thread move |

I seen the indie movie already, was good, if a little boring at times, but it's about video games so it's allowed..

Yeah, I hope I remember next Saturday.
I read someplace that the makers of BEDROOMS TO BILLIONS tried to get channel 4 onboard but c4 said it was a niche market and not something they would invest in. It seems crazy that they'd rather do a 2 hour show of their own rather than hire dedicated filmmakers who want to do a good job. Seems strange from the channel which brought us Gamesmaster. I believe the B2B project is near completion now. |

Thanks for the reminder
I will try to watch it (as long as it doesn't clash with Bellator - I've been really hooked on MMA recently, partly down to Jade Bryce). I have seen other programs on games before - there is one about Tetris that is great (alternative read the book "Game Over" by David Scheff). |

Really looking forward to this, love anything featuring Brooker. He did another show ages ago about gaming didn't he? I remember him reviewing a Castle Wolfenstein sequel, probably the most accurate review of the game at the time.

You will only need the Channel 4 catch-up service:

"Rights agreements mean that our 4oD service is only available in the UK and the Republic of Ireland, (although C4 does not always have rights for programmes in ROI). Even if you are a citizen of the UK or ROI you cannot access the service from abroad."

Dunno... clicking on Watch Live stays forever loading. Also the contents of the channel seem crap -sorry-. Here in Spain we can also export crap Channels, we've got Tele5 and La Sexta.
I'm not telling it will be a bad program, I'm sure it will be nice and I would like to watch it, but just take a look at my first impression. I like the Big Bang Theory, but the rest... "ON NOW: Masters of sex" ... . ... Last edited by Retrofan; 26 November 2013 at 23:46. |

You may also be able to use the 4od app on i-pads and xbox etc if you have xb live gold, which I dont. Also Sky plus? Perhaps your best chance may be someone on here with a DVD recorder could upload the clip as an unlisted youtube video for us all to watch.
I've seen all these and can recommend them all, they are on youtube already I think: BBC Horizon 1981 Sir Clive Sinclair Anatomy of an Inventor Rise and Fall of Imagine Software_ BAFTA talk - Replay Expo Sinclair Research computer history 1986 - Inside Commodore-Amiga Amiga - the movie Amiga - TheGloryYears DSK - Video Game History Commercial Breaks - A documentary about Imagine and Ocean Software Game On - The Unauthorized History of Video Games I, VIDEOGAME The history of Atari Thumb Candy - The history of computer games (2000) Time Shift - Hard Drive Heaven Trigger Happy The Rise Of The Video Game Video Game Invasion (with Tony Hawks) - A History of a Global Obsession Video Game Revolution |

Yes, it does take a while, but it gets there in the end.

And why don't we have a place to find all those nice videos together? Just giving the links would be enough.

Yes micro men was a genuinely good film, brilliantly nostalgic and about computers as well! One of the best things i've seen on telly for years.
Mind you I dont watch much telly. |

@Lifeschool. Nice, seems I wasn't very thorough in my search. This is definitely one of the better films in recent times made about computing, a real gem indeed
