In Serbian (and other Balkan languages), there's no way you can pronounce something differently then it's written. Maybe with different accent, but the wording would be the same, and no way 2 or more people would read it differently.
That's why, when learning English language, we are like: "Wait, why they write C, and read as K (example words: "Caring", "Closing", "Cursing"), and someties C is read as C (example: Citizen). Or when there's 2 same letters next to another (example: "letters" ). It's like:"Why the heck you need 2 T's"? That's what makes English language harder to learn. Now I am not saying, any language is better or worse then other (personally, I like English very much), but wanted to say what difficulties people have when learning it. I wonder if Scandinavia and Latin languages are closer to Balkans in this regards, or to English. |

Going back to topic, I believe many back then thought it was pronounced with PSY as in "sick", hence the common nickname for the company that you'd see in magazines: Psiggy. |

English isn't half bad to learn though. In fact it's pretty easy to learn it without actually learning grammar rules, that drove my English teacher nuts
Spanish or German... now that is a doozy. Or Dutch, for that matter. Wickedly badly designed language, even the exceptions have exceptions. |

According to a friend of mine who knows first-hand, people who worked there in the 1990's definitely pronounced it SIGnosis. I've always used this pronunciation although I understand why others say SIGH-gnosis.

As I previously mentioned, they had a budget label called PSYCLAPSE, it doesn't sound right if you pronounce the PSY as the 'SI' in SIT, so SICLAPSE

A very young me and my even younger brother had no idea how to pronounce it so for a long time (like several years) we just referred to the company as 'Pigs Noses' !

I am from germany, and we call this company
PSÜ-GO-SISS The P at the beginning is heard as a PEE but since it's followed by an S it's just the P from the beginning of PEE and then there comes the S.. PSSSSS.. so it's not "sigh" in the beginning, its PS with the P spitted out loud and then followed this ü Umlaut thing nobody can describe to someone who doesnt know Umlauts. The rest is similiar to how it really should sound. Hope this helped :-D |
