Question Rick Dangerous - Desperately seeking help!

I never managed to finish this game. After I downloaded the WHDLoad version, I thought I would finally succeed, as it featured a trainer option. Unfortunately, it turned out limited lives were not my problem... the problem is one particular screen I can't get past, the same screen in which I was stuck 15 years ago!
If you know RD well, please take a look at this video.

I apologize for the camera angle, it was shot by my fiancee while I was playing.
My problem is that I can't get to that damn second platform.

The snake is shooting at me the moment I reach a certain height. I've tried everything; shooting at it, placing dynamites at various spots, searching for invisible ladders, waiting for something to happen (or for the snake to stop shooting), nothing. Wherever I jump from, the arrow kills me.
Can anyone help?

oh yes. that's a tricky spot. i had problems with that, too. the moment you fall down on the level where you can see the snake you have to start moving to the other side to time it just right. you might need patience and various tries in order to succeed. all i know is when you wait to long you are not able to get past that point.

if that didn't help you have a look at
http://www.rickdangerous.co.uk/demos.htm
and click on EGYPT DEMO 1 (59KB) - you need a quicktime player to view the solution video

as it says: "Many times I have been asked how to beat the large spike pit on screen six, where Rick has to jump over it while being shot at. This is a timing trap of Jet Set Willy proportions. The trick, though, is to jump as far right as possible from the left hand platform. Once you're far enough right, the spears will stop, and the second jump should ensure this if it follows the first jump immediately."

I tried that too. Too be honest, I can't see how this might work, because I don't notice any change whatsoever in the way the snake shoots as time passes. Therefore, there doesn't seem to be any difference in whether you make your moves right away or later.

he started to pull his hear and cursed the game after SEVERAl tries.
i dont remember how he got by it,but i think that he managed to time the jump so he coud avoid the shoot.

RD - Gotta have another go game.... followed by yet another broken joystick through frustration.

Nice to know I wasn't the only one stuck on that level. Going to play again now when I've bought a supply of backup joysticks.

Oh, yes, this is exactly where I gave up, too...
Gotta check the video now! Maybe I'll try again beating this game after all those years ?
