AmigaOS 3.1 - Partions above 4gb limit
I have a FastAta MK4 in my A1200.
I have formatted and partioned a 160gb harddrive using OS3.9. Sfs2 is installed to the rdb and 3 partions are formatted (1gb, 1gb, and the rest) I installed OS 3.1 to the first partion (1gb in size). When install 3.1 (which has the command "ata3.driver resident quiet") is first loaded, I can see the partion above 4gb. However now when I turn on the A1200 with this hdd connected to the primary port, I can not see that partion. EDIT: Doh.. It seems like the command added to startup-sequence was "ata3.driver QUIET". I changed it to "ata3.driver resident quiet" and it now works. So enabling the option resident using ATA3Prefs does not work. |

I am quite sure you misunderstood the part of the readme quoted by Vot there: http://eab.abime.net/showpost.php?p=960922&postcount=12
This text says - you need RESIDENT to use harddrives bigger than 8GB - there are two ways to activate RESIDENT: a) use "ata3.driver resident quiet" if ata3.driver should reboot b) use "ata3.driver quiet" and activate RESIDENT in ATA3Prefs if another program causes a reboot, for example OS3.9's SetPatch RESIDENT needs a reboot to become active. Option b) saves you a reboot if you need to reboot anyway. |

At least for FastATA MK1 that isn`t true. I`m using 80GB HD not using RESIDENT (as argument or via Prefs). The only thing I have to do ist to activate "some" drives (from DH3: and later partitions) manually:
Code:
Einheit Größe Genutzt Frei Voll Fhlr Status Typ Name DF0: Keine Diskette im Laufwerk DH0: 735,6M 81,1M 654,5M 11% 0 schr.-/lesbar SFS0 System DH1: 2,1G 599,5M 1,5G 28% 0 schr.-/lesbar SFS0 Tools DH2: 3,4G 2,8G 519,5M 85% 0 schr.-/lesbar SFS0 Work DH3: 1,6G 547,5M 1,1G 34% 0 schr.-/lesbar SFS0 Temp Last edited by daxb; 24 June 2014 at 15:13. Reason: DH2: was wrong. DH3: is correct |
