SCSI bridging between Intuition and POSIX compliant OSes
Dear All!
here's a tough one. We all know, that linking a printer to two computers is easy as .... However, given that this is realised via simple switchboxes (or not so simple ones), how would anyone go about splicing a SCSI bus, so that one SCSI bus is used by more than one system synchronously or asynchronously such as an Amiga and a QNX machine? For people like me this is of importance, because all my gear runs on SCSI II and soon UltraSCSI III and all those CD-ROMS, Scanners etc. are pretty expensive as SCSI. Please no "USB / FireWire" answers. I want to see whether anyone out there has actually managed to SPLICE a SCSI bus. Any help welcome. |

Technically there really isn't anything physically or electrically STOPPING you from doing this except all the caveats;
1. No duplication of SCSI ID's (including controllers) 2. No method of locking files or filesystems between machines. 3. Machines probably aren't aware that another computer could change things, so can easily have cached data that was actually changed on the hard disk. 4. The same cable would have to be long enough to connect all devices and computers. 5. Termination power must be set up correctly (each controller would probably try to supply the power, and this is not a good thing for signal integrity). |
