Widescreen LCD TV and Amiga Via Composite or S-Video

Hi All,

Just a curiosity:

I am using a modern Samsung LCD TV to output my Amiga 1200 and Amiga 600. I am using a composite connection for both.

Why does the Amiga screen show up perfectly on the LCD screen (i.e. there are no black bars on the sides and the aspect ratio is not stretched)?

Of course, I am not complaining about this but simply curious as to why this is so.

Hi All,

Never mind....I just found out that this TV has a new smart stretch mode. The image in wide mode actually is slightly stretched on the sides of the screen but its very slight. A good feature to have....

Very slight, huh? If it's square pixels 320x256 or 720x576-ish, it's not stretched.

I have a widescreen stretch allergy, I'll see it in no time. Do you have the exact model# of your TV?

I know some LCD TVs are good with Amiga (some Samsung Syncmaster models and some Viewsonic models), but the real quest is to find a non-widescreen, 50Hz PAL, RGB Scart support one, at least for me.

I'm with photon, correct aspect or nothing for me... It almost sounds impossible for it to fill the entire screen and not look stretched somewhere. Do you have any screen pics?

Well, for me it has nothing to do with Amiga, really. I don't like it when faces on TV are squeezed either

I see that often in TV displays set up in stores, restaurants etc... "they don't see that!?" ... kinda like that phenomenon from the 80s, "parents bought a brand new VCR, and the clock had been blinking '00:00' for the nine years they had it".

Can someone please tell me the difference between AV scart and RGB scart?

I have found a monitor tv (LG) Full-HD with AV scart and Samsung Full-HD with RGB scart, i wonder which solution is best for playing Amiga games

RGB scart guarantees that it has RGB support.. AV scart can be anything really. Read the manual that came with your TV.
