Old games excellent remakes!
Is there a thread like this already? I thought I'll start a thread of old game remakes for modern computers, Windoze (yuk) most of the time. There's Wine tho, also the Steam software seems to work so you can play the games on Linux using the Proton "engine" in Steam. I haven't tried it as of late, someone said the earliest version of Proton works the best.

We tend to talk about each game in their own dedicated thread as we spot them in the wild.

Here's a list of what I have, they are all excellent because I deleted a lot of crap ones ;-) IIRC a couple are similar to the originals but most are significantly enhanced.
Unfortunately I didn't keep links to them, but most should still be findable if you search, it will at least give you an idea of what is/was available. They are all remakes of Amiga and C64 games, except a few like HOTM (Heavy on the Magick), etc. 09/04/2024 08:38 AM <DIR> ABurn3D 09/04/2024 08:38 AM <DIR> AlleyCat 09/04/2024 08:38 AM <DIR> antatack 09/04/2024 08:38 AM <DIR> AntAttack3D 09/04/2024 08:38 AM <DIR> archone 18/06/2024 11:02 AM <DIR> AttackOfTheMutantCamels 09/04/2024 08:38 AM <DIR> barbarian 22/11/2004 02:51 PM 754,883 cliffhng.exe 18/06/2024 10:58 AM <DIR> Cybernoid2 09/04/2024 08:38 AM <DIR> delta 09/04/2024 08:38 AM <DIR> dm2 09/04/2024 08:38 AM <DIR> driller 09/04/2024 08:38 AM <DIR> fargoal 09/04/2024 08:38 AM <DIR> finderskeepers 09/04/2024 08:38 AM <DIR> giana 09/04/2024 08:38 AM <DIR> HeadOverHeels-RetroRemakes 18/06/2024 11:06 AM <DIR> HeadOverHeels-Santos 09/04/2024 08:38 AM <DIR> HotM 09/04/2024 08:38 AM <DIR> ikplus 09/04/2024 08:38 AM <DIR> io 09/04/2024 08:38 AM <DIR> jumpjack 09/04/2024 08:38 AM <DIR> katakis 09/04/2024 08:38 AM <DIR> kq3 09/04/2024 08:38 AM <DIR> lionheart 14/06/2024 12:53 PM <DIR> lsl1 18/06/2024 11:05 AM <DIR> ManiacMansion 09/04/2024 08:38 AM <DIR> marble 09/04/2024 08:39 AM <DIR> mercenary 09/04/2024 08:39 AM <DIR> mercenary-sdl 18/06/2024 11:03 AM <DIR> MetagalacticLlamas 09/04/2024 08:39 AM <DIR> milenium 09/04/2024 08:39 AM <DIR> mule 09/04/2024 08:39 AM <DIR> NuclearWar3.0.0 09/04/2024 08:39 AM <DIR> sentinel-1.0 09/04/2024 08:39 AM <DIR> sentinel-1.5 09/04/2024 08:39 AM <DIR> Sentinel-Monolith 09/04/2024 08:39 AM <DIR> Sentinel-Pinnacle 09/04/2024 08:39 AM <DIR> Sentinel-Zenith 09/04/2024 08:39 AM <DIR> sharrier 09/04/2024 08:39 AM <DIR> sotb1 09/04/2024 08:39 AM <DIR> sq2 09/04/2024 08:39 AM <DIR> starwars 09/04/2024 08:39 AM <DIR> stuntcar-1st 09/04/2024 08:39 AM <DIR> stuntcar-2nd 09/04/2024 08:39 AM <DIR> Supercars3 09/04/2024 08:39 AM <DIR> tempest3 19/03/2021 03:47 AM 115,789,955 Ultimate Bruce Lee (For Windows 10).exe 09/04/2024 08:39 AM <DIR> valley 09/04/2024 08:39 AM <DIR> Virus 09/04/2024 08:39 AM <DIR> Virus-Chaga 09/04/2024 08:39 AM <DIR> wizball-v1.02 09/04/2024 08:39 AM <DIR> zaxxon Last edited by Minuous; 18 June 2024 at 10:04. |

I find a lot of "remakes" are poorly done and just cash grabs.
One game I'd LOVE to see a real remake/modern release of, is Syndicate. Don't touch the controls/gameplay, just upgrade the GFX and SFX to modern resolutions, and that is it. I'd be a happy camper |

And a semi-transparent roof option so you can actually see what you are doing when inside the buildings :-D

the version of battle squadron that appeared on Android a while back was pretty decent because it didnt look or sound any different to the Amiga version, a good old, if it aint broke, dont fix it approach.
I think i remember ios had spy vs spy, that looked great, had retro/modern gfx toggles but the control scheme sucked balls making the whole thing a pretty poor experience, only played it a few times due to my only purchase of an apple product, an ipad3, this bad choice of mine is why i quickly noped out of apple products once they intentionally made the product obsolete and void from updates with them forcing app creators to also update to require the "updated" os, so you couldnt even stick to using old device + old apps, nice expensive and worthless paperweight in the end. |

Also a few remakes for the old Amiga computers! Jet set Billy, Masterblaster (this was the best remake, right?!), Minerunner (Loderunner isn't an exquisite game but this multitasks), Nemesis the warlock (with 2 player mode). Nemesis the warlock remake was coded by someone called Karppa, a Finnish dude afaik, he also coded some other games. I don't know about more remakes. Anyone have these? Seems that the remake is difficult to find nowadays, it was on Aminet but they don't have half of the files they used to have there. Wonder what happened with that? I'm sure they have all the files somewhere backupped, lets push it that they'll restore them and put them online!
I'll add, the best multitasking games of the 90s for the downloads and uploads, maybe this needs another thread? Pete Whiteman's Klondike (tried to contact the author by email but he didn't reply), I don't know was it the right person, Zetris, Dieserzug (a basic worm-game, don't like this anymore), Maybe I forgot a game or two, I'll add them if I'll remember! ps. Would anyone have feedback.lha, the chaos fractal thing for Amiga? Or something like that for Linux? |

I guess our Timebomb is a remake of Timebomb on the Speccy and is a straight remake with little change apart from GFX/SFX. JetHunt is a tribute to HERO but similar. 10x10 and 4096 are also re (de?) makes from Android.

I remember one more multitasking game, a breakout clone that was kind of nice! I didn't like really it later tho, breakout clones are a bit twacky. Maybe with a trackball style of a controller it would be better! Minuous, would you like to share those game remakes somewhere? Why a M$-dos style dir tho? ;-) You could share 'em on Zeooul or a filrsharing service! Would be exquisite! My nick there ob Zoulah is rhubarb-messiah .

It's just a Windows command prompt. They are Windows games after all... >Minuous, would you like to share those game remakes somewhere? They should mostly still be available from the original site(s); if there's one you are having trouble finding I could upload it somewhere I suppose. |
