WANTED: 2 device IDE cable for a1200
my hard disk is making some very bizarre noises, i'm putting a CF card in there instead. however, i'd like to copy the HD install over while it still works. for this i need a 2 connector cable as mine only has the one.
offers please..... Last edited by Interceptor; 20 September 2007 at 16:40. Reason: changed wording, if that's okay? :P |

i had a browse through the amikit website today and noticed some shocking things.
one example is rounded IDE cables for £8, the exact same thing is on ebuyer for something like £1.50. this trend continues throught the website. i'm unhappily accept that genuine amiga items sell for stupid money due to the rarity of them, much like an antique dealer makes good money from old stuff. but this guy is selling commonly available *current* pc parts for 4 times the price that any member of the public can get them for by simply NOT going to amikit.com. ..but thanks for the tip. |

I suppose it's the old 'support your local grocer' type situation. Personally I'd keep searching, you're bound to find it cheaper elsewhere.

Why don't you copy your contents of hdd to CF using PC: Take the hdd out of Amiga and put it in PC (if it's 2.5'' hdd than you'll need 3.5'' to 2.5'' ide cable). Copy files to PC hdd, swap hdd for CF card, partition it and copy files to it - you can do it all in WinUAE.

@Interceptor
dont count Amigakit out just yet, 2 Way IDE Cable if your original drive is 2.5" then you may require an adaptor to 40pin I hope that might help a little, as a soapbox in the morning i would like to say that that judging a company on one area of its products only leads to an askewd look of them as a whole, I did this, and in some ways I do regret it to.. Truth is I cannot really argue with you as there are some cheaper components elsewhere, here and there, and under a stone or two at the local fleabay, but as a whole, I can only say that I am proud to do business with a company that clearly puts the customer first. I will say though as it seems a little crazy.... why would you goto an Amiga specialist to buy PC components?! freaky.... you want to be scaired dont you. I can honestly say that 80% of my amiga dealings go through with amigakit.. their customer service help / assitence is second to NONE! wow.... I might buy an amigakit flag and put it outside my house! |

if i cant get a cable, i'll work it out. it's that specific cable i'm looking for, to make life simple, if possible. err, that's great, you wave your flag meanwhile, would you happen to have a spare amiga 2-way hdd cable you could either lend or sell me please? |

Amigakit can make a 2.5" cable to your exact specifications, i.e. what length it is, what point along the cable the middle socket is, which way round each socket is etc. Just ask and give him a diagram if necessary.
I thing he charged me about 7 quid to make one up for me. |

listen man, if you don't want to buy from there DON'T. there is no reason or point for your criticism. Everyone knows amigakit.com is a great amiga service. search all amiga forums, you will find 99% positive feedback for the service and support of amigakit.com .
Noone is forcing you to buy from there and if can get better deals then go get them. amigakit offers far more valuable items , and is a channel for us end-users to get them. |

Also, it seemed pretty obvious to me it was ironic. I guess you don't have a sense of humour there? This is his thread, not yours. If you'd started the thread I'm sure we would all see your point. Last edited by P-J; 21 September 2007 at 21:17. |

P-J this is a forum. so I can post my thoughts like everyone else here.
and the only irrelevant post here is yours. It appears you have something against Greeks.... maybe someone touched your loved ones? you know what? TAKE IT ELSEWHERE. and yes as this thread is not yours (like you pointed above) then you cannot complain about my post. let someone else do it. ... no go play elsewhere |
