Commodore Amiga 600

ive owned all the AMIGA keyboard systems over the years and the CD32. But the 600 is my favourite. it was my 1st amiga so that probably explains why i have such affection for it.

the day i got my 600 was the best christmas ever

reason for the thread is i just wanted to disuss all thing 600! is there anyone else around that loves the 600? and even uses as there main system now?
i would also like to hear from people who DIDNT like the 600 and why.

lol, I was 13 or 14. My A600 was a replacement as my A500 was stolen when our house was robbed.

Damnest thing, mine and my brothers A500's were sat next to each other, but they only took mine, I was devastated, . They even stole my favorite adventure at the time, willy biemish, .

I remember the A600 UK TV adverts being Sooooo cheesy that whoever signed off on them (probably david plesance) should have been shot.

The kid looks so nerdy. His bedroom is so tidy that you've got to wonder if he wasnt an abused child and he's left handed ffs! The creature makeup and effects look great until the over acting at the end.

I still can't believe that they released the A600. It was a big flop here in Germany. The first board revisions even lacked a proper PCMCIA/ATA support.

Today it's a nice "pimp my computer" machine for hardware freaks and works certainly good enough with a CF-HD & WHDLoad+Fastram. Anyway, i would still miss the AGA chip & numpad of my A1200.

I love my A600!
I was 13 when it came out and I got it as a xmas present too. In Germany!
Somewhere I have the EXACT SAME PIC, hahahah, putting an elbow over the A600!
Is that the signature NEW XMAS A600 OWNER pose? xD

A600 HAS A POSSE.
Stop dissing the little machine.
Recently, Syphus was coming to perform to Blip festival in New York and I was telling him he should bring an A600 and he cursed the hell out of it. He ended up bringing an A600. They run like heaven!

I don't understand A600 bashing and I do not want to hear any more hate towards one of the best little computers. no numpad? GO AWAY YOU BUSINESS STUDENT :P

A600 was big in UK, but if it had been 2 years earlier it would have been HUGE.

The form factor is so much better than the A500 especially with HD.

It was unfortunately marketed as an upgrade from A500 which was unfortunate for those Amiga owners who were suckered into "upgrading" only to see the A1200 come out only 6 months later.

It was way too expensive, compared to an A500+, and nearly not expandable. PCMCIA stuff & other hw-goodies were expensive too. Yep, the A1200 was the best choice at that time.

They sold some A600 machines here after an extreme cutting of prices.

Yeah, definitely!
I find a more stupid release the A500+, they could have skipped that and release the "A300" (early name for the 600, which i like a lot) and it would have been awesome.

By the time I got my A600 the A1200 was released at the shops, and I was wondering, "why didn't we get the A1200 instead?"

A quick google reveals the RRP for an A500+ bundle in 1991/2 was £359 and A600 was £349 so at RRP it was £10 cheaper!

The A600 would have been cheaper to produce than the A500+ so should have been cheaper but I do remember you are right and after discounts actually in the shops the A500+ sold slightly cheaper...

Saw one of the sexiest things ever the other weekend. some guy from the Retro Computer Museum (check out the forum) had fit an 1200 board and cd drive into a 600 case. It involved cutting the board and folding it under itself. damn good job, but must have took ages

Just checked some old magazines from 3/1992. The Amiga 500+ costed 775 DM here in Germany. Only a month later the A600 costed 775 DM and the A500+ 735 DM.

In 7/93 Vesalia offered the A600 for 399 DM. Nearly half of the original list price.

That's true, but this was the time they sold at least a few machines here. Even if i can't remember somebody who owned an A600 in the 90s.

I never owned an A600 in the 90's. I got mine in 2003.

I had half ECS A500 and then an A1500.

I like the 600, but there wasn't much point to it when the 1200 was only round the corner with the newer aga chipset. Around the time C= made some silly decisions imo. The 500+ should've been kept on and then leap to the 1200... but hey that's history I suppose.

The 500+ and 600 will always be oddball Amiga's to me. The 500+ was the better machine out of the two.... you had greater choice of add-ons and the numeric keypad to boot...

I got my A600HD in 1997, I brought it second hand for about $60USD at the time.

It was my 2nd amiga, and I was happy as it had a HD, I remember my mate had one back in 93 when all I had was a A500 with 1mb ram, (I didn't even own a external disk drive, this changed when I started stealing from the school, but it was ok, amigas were on not used in the classes but Acorns were).

I liked my A600HD as it had IPL-Flash Back on it, I had to ring up the guy to ask him how to get it going on a bog standard A600HD, (Disable a partion, add44k...). It also had NCOMM and Smartplay on it and some MYStic compilation disk.

Can't remember the size of the hd, i'm guessing it was only 20mb. Sadly it died so my mate gave me his one, but then when I was in oz my parents threw it out as we were moving to another house ((.

I like A600HD it was a nice machine.
