Super League 2021: Round 13 - Twinworld & Rubicon

Twinworld: Land of Vision [lemon] [hol]
Collect 23 fragments of the magical amulet and defeat the evil druid Maldur. When you are completely stationary pushing down will destroy specific platforms. Pressing down also enters caves and doors. Spacebar changes the weapon you are using. If you have a flute you can call a merchant twice, by pressing 'H', and buy items using your points. ESC sacrifices a life.

Rubicon [lemon] [hol]
In the year 2011 a Soviet nuclear powerplant disaster creates an island full of mutants. You must go in and disarm the remaining nuclear materials. Select your weapons using F1 - F7. To arm a weapon, have it selected before collecting the power up item.

Round Ends: 23:59 (UK Time) on Saturday 13th November 2021

Rules:

• Get the best score you can, during this round.
• Post screenshots of your score in this thread, and write the score nearby.
• Scores to be achieved without save-states, trainers, passwords, and cheats.
• No continues or infinite score leeching.
• Finish the game and post a screenshot of the end for the completion star.

Special Scoring for Rubicon:

• Take a screenshot of the furthest level you reach.
• On level 1 there are 4 checkpoints worth 40,000 / 80,000 / 120,000 / 160,000 (see post below)
• From level 2 your score = (level reached x 100,000) + (lives x 10,000). If you complete the game take a screenshot of the final boss dead and use the lives from that (the end of the game) to calculate your score. If you forget to take this screenshot, and instead screenshot the end credits, it will be assumed you were on your last life. You get an extra 100,000 for finishing the game.

Here are the checkpoints for level 1 of Rubicon. Spacebar pauses the game. It is best to take a screenshot at these checkpoints but you can take one anywhere as long as it is obvious what part of the level it is.

Start = 40,000 (yes you get 40k just for starting the game)
Dragon Pits = 80,000
Fire Back Dino = 120,000
Dragon Boss = 160,000



For a frame of reference here are screens of the start of each level. You can take the screenshot at any time but then risk losing lives and getting less score.

Example score. If you reach level 2 with 4 lives. 200,000 + 40,000 = 240,000

Some notes to shots: You have 3 shot types, selectable with space. Switch between yellow and green in the normal play to use them up equally and use blue mostly for the dragons.


You can fire a high-shot when you press fire at the top point of a jump. You can use a down-shot when you press down and fire in the second, falling part of a jump.

Never played before 16-bit versions and only a few minutes C64-version

I've got about no experience of Twinworld. Only given it a quick test during the voting. Seems quite chill. Jumping a bit tense.

Are the weapons of different strength? The blue one most powerful?

This is my first attempt, will have to do better, lol

Yes, the balls / shots have different strengths - red being the weakest, green twice as good as red, and blue even stronger. But the supply of blue balls is very limited, so use it only for the dragon / bothria and tricky passages.

As for Level B, you can either enter the door at the start and do a difficult lava jump, or get the key, defeat the "dragon" and enter the locked door. I find the latter less difficult than the jump.

Oh guys, there is a problem with this game...
I played with ADF version, but it's the same, at level6 you can't change weapon, otherwise crash
So I tried without change weapon but when you complete level 6... the game crash again
I can't complete it with this bug
What can I do?

ps: I tried in the past days with HLA file, and the bug still present (

I continued to play Twinworld in the last days, and managed to complete it.

I bought 2 extra lives for a total of 600 points, but 10 years ago my highest score was about 51 k, so there is room for improvement.

In the later levels, you must look very carefully before moving, as traps and the "two-eyed snappers" are spreaded widely.

cheers mate but unfortunately was only a "lucky" run
The bug still present in every file of Rubicon (adf & hla)
Isn't depend from configuration of WinUAE etc...
Same bug happened with AmigaLive during his stream on Twitch. I was playing Rubicon and crashed
Many guys in this competition didn't see this problem cause it appears only in the last 2 levels

In you play 10 times, in 8 you got bug, and in 2 (if you're lucky) no bug
Issue happens especially when you change weapon (in the last 2 levels) but sometimes happens even you do not pressy any Fnumber button

In the last 24h, I investigated about this issue , talking with Mr.AmigaLive
He played a lot using save state after level5, to see better if we can avoid the bug of last levels BUT still crashing

I felt was right to inform you about the RubiconBug. I'll let you know if I have new update about it

Well played Harry. Don't think I'll find the time to get anywhere near that. It's harder than it looks.

I had to update the rules for Rubicon because I'd stupidly not put any rules about the final screenshot for beating the game. My mistake and only noticed when Giro submitted his score.

Updated now. Basically, screenshot the dead final boss for your lives count and completion bonus.

Now I am content with it and dont think i will play it again.

Spent the afternoon with Rubicon and enjoyed it. Not that difficult once you get past level 3. Last level was the next hard one and nearly got me.
