A500 runs good.. have a supra xp 500 and when i plugg it into the side of the a500 expansion bus and turn on the machine its just a black screen, power light on the unit but none on the 500.. it has 2 megs of ram on board and a 80 meg hard drive.. hard drive disabled and even removed and same thing. removed the ram, set jumpers to 0k and still no go.. tried with just the hard drive with no ram and nothing.. hmmmmmm

Not enough "juice" on the PSU can be the cause.
Does the unit have their own power supply? |

Then check the voltage the unit's PSU provides.
Specially the +5V rail, who must be in the 4.85 to 5.25V range and steady. |

Try without separate powersupply by connecting two jumpers (marked "5" and "6") next to amigabus connector.
NOTE: Never connect powersupply to HD controller if jumpers are connected! |

k, dissconnected powersupply, added jumpers to 5 and 6 and still no go, opened up this morning and noticed hard drive disable switch looked burned around where it was mounted on board, replaced switch with another switch. Also noticed there is a 4 pin componet beside it thats in cased in black and around 2 of the 4 pins it looks abit fried also ( not blackened but a real off set grey then a standard looking soldered point) Thinking i might have to replace that.. everything else on the board looks good. not sure how to go about testing that, I will remove it and see if electronic store has one to replace. sound right thing to do next?

first off, check for shorts in the ciruitry around that: chances are if it's shorted out, it will have done so for a reason... It could be that the switch has failed and shorted to the case, but all the same worth checking twice.
Sounds like a good course of action though. check and double check. I'd run it off the standalone PSU to ensure that you don't take out something in the 500 if there is a short! Don't forget to change those jumpers back if you use the PSU! Good luck! ![]() |
