Lands of Lore Amiga port
Hi,
Has anyone come across any articles or info which explaines why there was no Amiga port of Lands of Lore? We got Eye of the Beholder I and II, but why not LoL? It came out on 1993 on dos, did Westwood consider Amiga not powerful enough, although it doesnt look much more demanding than EoBs. It is a great game, I have fond memories of it, but started to wonder why they didn't release it. |

I can only guess but I think it is quite obvious
A1200 was released only 3 months before so the market was very small at the the time of release. No HD floppy, no hard drive, way too slow. Nobody would bother... |

The title got me hopeful that someone was working on a port!
I'm sure an A1200/CD32 version would have been possible, a slightly stripped back version perhaps, a few corners cut here and there. Games requiring more disks have been released. Probably just not worth the effort on Westwood's part, considering Commodore's death spiral. |

Must say away from DM & Chaos Strikes Back, LOL was one of my favourite RPG's back in the early PC Days. It would be amazing if it was ported to Amiga.
A while back we spoke about that Thimbleweed Park PC was technically able to be ported from PC to Amiga obviously with intense coding. SO I do not see why not LOL cannot be ported stripped from all the glitz and glamour and converted as a bare basic RPG like EOB. I guess someone who is dedicated and has more time then ever it may be a possibility? |

Yes... but it wouldn't really be LOL anymore. Dreams of porting should not incorporate words such as "stripped"!

it requires a hard drive it requires mostly a 68020 or better a 68030@50mhz accelerator released in 1993 |

Nice to see some LOL fans here. I think it's the best RPG of that era. Or of all times.

This is Eye of the beholder on the next level, i bet it would need a 030, AGA, and some fast RAM to run it properly. Funny because i was looking at some good DOS games that came around 1993/94 but didnt't do it to the Amiga and this is one of the best.

ScummVM version works great even on expanded Amiga, so why spend time on another port.
Well I can think of 3 games that required more than 12 floppies and that's it. Biggest game as far as I know was Biing! from 1995 taking 19 floppies but required HD install. |

Interesting... When emulating ScummVM via WinUAE I've always used NovaCoder's latest release v1.5.0.004...
Works perfectly with "Day of the Tentacle" & "The Dig" Where can I get the Amiga ScummVM v1.3.1 from to test / try out with "Lands of Lore: The Throne of Chaos"? It's not on Aminet |
