Input lag, soupy cursors, and whatnot

Over 5 years ago, I was the person who complained about a 'soupy' cursor in Workbench (I think it was in the Yahoo group which seems stagnant atm). Apparently, the explanation that was given to me was that the hardware I was using was the problem. However, I tried it on many different setups (using a CRT of course), and the input lag always remained. The problem affected ALL input (not just the mouse).

But then, just yesterday, I upgraded from v1.3 to the latest version of WinUAE (1.6), and it looks much better! If the soupy cursor effect is still there, it's only miniscule.

Just wondering if anyone else found the cursor soupy back then or if only I spotted it. Also, could future versions of WinUAE be even better in this regard? I'm guessing there's a 5-20ms lag, even with Vsync turned off.

Oh and one quick question. The numpad keys 1,3,7,9 work in WB, but not 2,4,6,8. Any possible reason for that?

Welcome to EAB twinbee

I think you'll find WinUAE is forever evolving and bettering itself on a day by day basis

Why don't you tell us more about yourself here in member introductions http://eab.abime.net/forumdisplay.php?f=104

Yes, go to the 'Game ports' window and disable the Keyboard Layout A for port 1

Thanks both!

Just for interest, here's a nice flash applet which demonstrates input lag:

On the older WinUAE, it felt like that applet with 80ms input lag! I would guess the input lag now feels more like 30ms with WinUAE 1.6. Some LCDs have a terrible 50 ms baseline lag, so one might need a CRT for proper testing.
