Turrican 3 or MEGA Turrican??
Yes... Newly minted fan of the Turrican series that I am, I have pondered this question for some time...
Which version is the best? Turrican 3 for the Amiga or Mega Turrican for the Sega Megadrive/Genesis. Turrican 3 has better sound, but Mega Turrican has better graphics. That's the two main differences that I have been able to discern, but surely there's more? You lads who are more experienced surely know the answer, which is the better game? Or should the games-series just have ended after Turrican 2...? |

Since Turrican 3 was designed for a console it's more like a Contra clone. I miss the huge maze-a-like levels here, too linear imho. It's a big disappointment that they've replaced the surround-lightning weapon with the annoying rope.
Technically it's a good game, no doubt. Anyway, i prefer the both predecessors. |

Very good synopsis Retro For me the hook/rope and the straight forward level design where the biggest disadvantages of Turrican 3. I vote for the Amiga version because the music is again really good and maybe the best part of the game

I think Mega Turrican is better than Super Turrican 1 & 2 for SNES even if SNES have better hardware than MegaDrive. For me Turrican 3 have better controls than Mega Turrican, only one button and diagonals for jumping (I don't like jumping with buttons because Amiga was my first real game machine, not console).

Awesome music again makes Amiga the choice for me.Funny enough i remember how people slagged at the time on T3's music for not being as great as T2.T2 has the most remarkable music on Amiga but T3 also contains some of mr Huelsbeck's best work
Bit of a structure departure though from the maps and in general it wasn't quite that Turican feel, but i just remember being so wrapped up in the music really Last edited by Adropac2; 05 January 2009 at 19:35. |

Hmm, well it would seem as if one of the versions clearly has an edge here!
I'll hold off for a while, but it seems rather obvious which version is the one preferred by the fans. While we're at it, how would you guys say Turrican 3 measures up to the Super Turrican games? I played Super Turrican 2, and felt it was a true gem in console action games, but obviously a lot of the Turrican charm was somewhat diluted. S2325: Ok, so it's really better than the Super games? Must be a really good action game then. |

Both Super Turricans on the SNES are too far from the original Turrican feeling, while the first one at least had the surround shot Still Turrican 2 for Amiga followed closely by Turrican 1 on the C64 had it

I bought Super Turrican when it was released for the SNES. The level design it's more like in Turrican 1&2. They removed the rope and brought back the surround beam, sadly you can only freeze the enemies with it.
Pretty nice game, i find it's better than Mega Turrican/Turrican III. Anyway, it's a matter of taste. I've played Super Turrican 2 only in emulation, it's another Contra-like game. Not my cup of tea. |

The PC-Engine version is nice (better than the awful Mega Drive port), but it suffers from a too small HuCard. The Code Monkeys used only 256KB, ridiculous.

Turrican 3 was a huge disappointment to me.
Way too different from the excellent second game in the series. It's been very long since I played it now, but weren't there some levels pretty much in greyshades? Very little color? |

And Turrican 2 for Amstrad is so strange http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=82rsiu2ZmY4&fmt=18 Different, green armor with new helmet (but look at him on title picture). Also I don't know why he has ability to throw fireballs on that picture.

The Amstrad version is crap, just like the ZX Spectrum game. The C64 version is much better.
