3 button alfa data optical grid mouse

i have a amiga 3 button alfa data optical mouse that only works on the special metalic grid wich is badly worn so its worse than a clogged up ball type of mouse before i subject it to the screwdriver and pull it apart
im thinkin if it used a modern optic led it would cure it but then i think
maybe its more complex as the controller chip inside samples
the pics and sends the movments to amiga controler chip

maybe just change led optics

my old logitec mouse takes 2 x 1.5v batterys so is 3 volter

any thoughts !!

Perhaps you didn't want this kind of "solution but here it is:

Print a replacement mat.

Seriously, I have optical Golden Image Amiga mouse that also requires special grid mat. Original mat died ages ago, photocopied replacement mat glued inside transparent plastic is still working fine

I even saw downloadable grid images somewhere..

Hello, I have the same problem. Revived my old A1200 with Alfadata optical mouse but cannot find the mouse mat. Anyone has scanned image of original mat or any image that works with this mouse? Many thanks.

Amigakit sells PS/2 mouse adapters. Cheap Microsoft Wheelmouse Optical and you have something much, much, MUCH, much better.

For sure, 10 EUR+adapter is not as cheap as a printed paper covered in plastic. But remember that the screen, keyboard, joysticks, and mouse are the parts of your setup that decide the level of enjoyment in front of the computer, any computer.

That can work.

I have a Mouse Systems optical mouse and no mouse pad, so I printed on a transparency sheet of a mat (lots of DOTs, not a grid).
If it's a mouse that needs a metal mat, you need that..
Kind of..

What I did (works for testing) is what I saw on youtube.
(Found it: [ Show youtube player ] )

Aluminum Foil.. ;-)
Yep, I have my transparency on a sheet of Aluminum foil and it works.
You need the tin foil (sheet of metal) underneath the transparency for the sensors. Sounds silly but it works..
It's a bit jumpy, but I think that's because the image I used is random dots and not a grid...

It's not a permanent solution, but its' good enough for now..

Hi desiv, thanks for the reply

This Alfadata mouse needs the mat and mouse to be in right angle. Once you turn the mouse, cursor no longer goes in right direction (i.e. the mat says which way is up/down/left/right, not the mouse). So I guess random dots may not work and it needs to be regular rectangular mesh.

Thanks, that might work. Either printing regular mesh or print regular pattern of dots/rectangles to have the mesh from aluminium shine through.

But anyway, I am still looking for the scan of original mat. At least to figure how the pattern looks if it won't work as is.

I now have this pad, works perfectly with Golden Image Optical Mouse (which requires grid pattern optical mouse pad) Finally found something that replaced old photocopied version

I tried printing out the image from your link here:
http://www.lemonamiga.com/forum/view...74d38402f1169e

and that doesn't work on my Mouse Systems optical mouse.
In fact, the image I use printed on a transparency sheet doesn't work, unless I have the aluminum foil underneath it.

So the Mouse Systems mouse I have needs that.
Too bad, I'd love to have used the one you linked...

If I can find a smallish mirror, I will try that and see if it needs reflectivity or an actual metallic surface...

I should print an actual pattern rather than the random tiny dots I used, but transparency sheets are expensive-ish. ;-) So I want to pick a good one before I try it again..

Grid pattern is too small to be visible in that image.

My mouse didn't come with a pattern like that, you see, but a green plastic pad with a grid proper. Like this, but corded and it was dark green with light green lines. Perhaps we can conclude then that it doesn't work with a GoldenImage pattern. Basically what desiv has been saying.

Wow Photon, that grid is interesting...
The grid looks too large to be useful for optical tracking purposes, so there has to be more to the pad than just that grid...

I don't have the mousepad for mine, but I assume it's a Sun Mouse type of grid (as Mouse Systems made both), like this:

(That pic looks dark, but it's a fine grid..)

I have no idea how a grid as wide as the AlfaData would work...

KUAL.. ;-)

Even if it's about 40 EUR total, I still think it's a great idea to go with a new optical and this!

Then surely, the original tank mouse with a ball would be the Amiga-coolest?

I see it as 'my Amiga deserves the best' and DPaint and general clicking on things is very accurate and enjoyable with an optical!

I prefer about 400 DPI ones without hardware acceleration (Logitech et al) as lasers and opticals with very high resolution or acceleration are almost unusably fast across the screen. (And of course, wireless ones give an input lag, which you may or may not notice and may or may not annoy you if you do.)

I find it very beautiful indeed that adapters and such for modern peripherals are being made for Amiga

Thread necro. ;-)
Well, I finally found an optical mousepad. Came with a PC mouse, which looks EXACTLY like the Amiga optical mouse. ;-)
(Probably different insides as I'm am guessing the PC mouse is serial)

Anyway, tried it, and it works, but it's still jumpy.

Wonder if the mouse/sensor is just a bit worn out?
I suppose I could try to open it up and clean it out (it doesn't look too bad, but..).

Either way, glad I have a pair that kind of works. It won't replace my original Amiga mouse, but fun to have...

Also of note (not a surprise, but), I did run Freewheel and assigned flip screens to the middle button and it worked. So that was my first use of a 3rd button on an Amiga mouse. ;-)

Hmmm.. Just graqbbed the PC mouse and flipped it over and noticed this nice felt on the bottom.
My Amiga optical doesn't have that.. Hmmmm

Well, replaced the bottom panel (with no felt) with the one from the PC mouse (with the felt) and its much nicer now..

(Of course, I lost a small plastic ball when I opened one of htem, each mouse has 2.. I'll have to do thru the room to see where it went. But at least now I have spare parts!)

Good thing the mousepad I ordered came with spare mouse parts.. ;-)
