I know. I was referring potential issues with the USB stack, if a game isn't all that multitasking friendly (as I assume at least some CD32 games would'nt be).

They might list it as "in stock" - that doesn't necessarily mean it is (I don't know). Plus it's utter crap, from what I hear

No, it's actually BRILLIANT! Poseidon software works pretty much flawlessly. IMO, if there's one mod to make to your A1200, it's USB! i.e., don't want to install or load your A1200 up with games or software, just to try out? Throw it on a stick... don't like the software... delete it! Pop some MP3s on a stick just to check 'em out! Want some software from the web FAST? Download from your Win machine a transfer immediately! Also, you can buy dirt cheap USB to WiFi & ethernet adapters too (they work depending on the chipset & slow but work well enough to DL stuff from AmiNet and WHDownload - and you would still have to install a TCP/IP stack). When I got my A1200 Magic Pack back in 2010, I had it on the internet with an hour with just the software that came with it (after installing a HDD - and some other junk - okay, that might be an exageration). Now, to be fair, I have some fairly decent accelerators in my A1200's. I REALLY wish that someone would come up with USB hardware for 68K based Apple MACs!

I wasn't dissing USB in general, I was talking about the quality of the Rapid Road hardware. Don't hotplug things into your Rapid Road or there's a very good chance it might die.

On an A1200 there's much cheaper options for network or removable mass storage devices, I was never tempted by USB. But I get the because-I-can! angle and we're way off-topic anyway

The CD version of Inherit the Earth doesn't have any CDDA, it's all files.

I mount CD drives on all of my Amigas, it is the 2nd thing I do right after OS install. Why? Because I have copied every driver and application I have onto one CDROM to rule them all and it allows me to install everything off of that single CDROM Disc.

For my money I do it for consistency and ease but then again I tinker a LOT with my Amigas and am pretty much constantly re-installing the OS for some reason or other.

The CD32 version of Disposable Hero sounds 10 times better than the 1200 version (win uae). So if I could emulate that version on my real 1200, with all the audio, with an external CD drive, I'd be happy and would be worth it for me.

I use for CD32 Emulation an OverdriveCD from Archos - was also sold in the UK as Zappo.

Last year I collected many infos about the drive - you can find it @a1k.org

Disposable Hero works perfectly with the CD32 emulation on a 1200.

If you want to run CD games or use Amiga CD-ROMs (magazine discs and some compilation discs sometimes have interesting stuff that might not be found elsewhere) then it is worth the investment.

Any other traditional uses have more or less been superseded by better alternative methods.

I have a Matshita dvd-rom sr-8178 Ata Device. It is a slim reader with IDE interface, you will need an adapter if you want to use this type of slim units.
It is connected to the 1200 controller with FASTIDE A1200 ADAPTER FOR 4XIDE INTERFACE
And the emulator I use is the one that comes with IDE-FIX.

I'm not a connoisseur, but you can't directly mix the two audio signals because you could damage your Amiga. Apparently you had to put some kind of resistance or passive audio mixing.
I solved it with a plate that I bought a long time ago and now I don't think you can find it unless I have the knowledge to make one.

I think something like this could be worth it, but it is already another element that occupies and also needs power.

I asked a.mi.goun on amibay to create a simple mixer for me that does what you want.
https://www.amibay.com/entry.php?381...-6-6)-CD-Sound

I had looked for some of the already made solutions that were around previously but couldn't find any available.

(Posted this from tapatalk and not sure if that link works, but its just to the most recent post on my amibay blog which you can get to via the amibay front page)

I believe it is a quite a basic thing to make, however I have no skills and very little knowledge and so I asked a.mi.goun on amibay if he could make something.
He has a thread selling all sorts of useful cables although this wasn't listed so I dropped him a PM with my request and he very kindly came up with what is in the picture.
That would be my suggestion if you don't want to make it yourself.

After the pain of making all the floppies and installing AmigaOS 3.2 I think I can suddenly see at least one good reason for a CD-ROM drive!
