Original screenshot size
Trying another emulator (SNES) i noticed one interesting thing,
that could be added in WinUAE as a little but useful feature Taking screenshots of Super Nintendo games i always got a fixed size screenshot, regardless the video confing i'm using So no difference if i'm using windowed or fullscreen at different sizes, png of game is taken in the original resolution size This is not the behaviour of WinUAE, as you know, since screenshot is exactly like the current display size What about a small option to add the possibility to take the screenshot in its original size ? |

Old idea (there is at least one post somewhere..).
There is no "original" resolution. There is some kind of "original resolution" before filters are applied but it is something you most likely don't want. It will be full max hardware supported resolution = huge borders. Comparison to consoles (or most other computers) is useless as usual because Amiga has programmable display position/size. Most other old computers/consolers have only standard 640 or 320x200 resolutions (or something like that) |

What you really want is everything but the black borders. Solution? 1. Disable all the filters, and by all I mean all. This is essential for the sake of authenticity. 2. Go to the "Display" panel and set "Line Mode" to "normal". You don't want anything doubled here. 3. Set "Lores", "Hires" or "SuperHires". I don't think I need to extend myself explaining the criteria you should base your choice on 4. Run WinUAE with a resolution matching that of the actual game. Remember, you don't have to do this in fullscreen mode so don't worry about your video card+drivers+monitor combo not supporting 320x256 or whatever resolution is required, that's what windowed mode is for. 5. Take your screenshot. Some games such as Turrican II don't make use of all the available, visible screen so you still end up with black borders in the screenshots. Solution? crop them out of the image using something like the automatic, color-based cropping feature from XnView. I know it all sounds a bit of an inconvenience but trust me, it's very straightforward. Just save a "Screenshot profile" with the aforementioned settings and off you go |
