A3660 with FastATA

Hey peeps, long time lurker.

I've been slowly trying to build up my A4000 into a little bit of a beefier beast; I've got an Indivision AGA in there currently with a ZZ9000 on the way which should be fun. I have a X-Surf-100 for Ethernet and USB, a Big RAM Z3 256MB card, and a FastATA card.

Things were working just fine with the 040 on my 3640 board (one of the newer rev 3.3.2 ones that are floating around) but wanted a little more speed so I picked up a new A3660 .. and nothing works. I put in the 3.9 ROMs that came with it so it definitely has the FPU workaround - but it won't even get far enough to boot with the FastATA plugged in. It just blinks it's power light at me.

I also have an A4091 card (along with a cheeky SCSI to IDE adapter thing) that I picked up but it's not working at all with this card. I don't know if I'm doing something wrong.

Note this isn't the issue with the 060 libraries - I don't even get that far. I am unable to boot at all from the floppy with either the FastATA or the SCSI card in there.

I've tried MAPROM jumper in both positions, ROMSPEED set to 160 and 200 (160 seems to help).

I think for now I'm just going to use the internal IDE ... but I was hoping someone can tell me maybe I'm missing something.

So I have put my pride and joy back together, using the internal IDE rather than the FastATA card, everything works just fine but neither the A4091 or the FastATA works. So something weird there. I've given up for now.

I don't think it's the PSU, I replaced it with a good quality SFX PSU.

Next thing for me is to get the GBAPII++ card I have in there working with Picasso96.

If anyone has any ideas on what might be going on with the FastATA let me know. I have no idea if the SCSI to SATA adapter I have actually works so I'm not 100% sure there's actually an issue with the A4091.

I have an A3640+060 adapter and it worked with an A4091. I have an original FastATA which just kind of decides when and where it wants to work so I don't bother with it.

There was some discussion a while back whether the BigRAMPlus was actually a Z3 DMA device, if so then that would take the place of your only Z3 DMA device with Buster-11, which would clash with the A4091.

Interesting; I did try without the BigRAMPlus; it still has the same problems with the FastATA so I think as you say, they are not super compatible.

I just got some 3.1.4 ROMs so I will try those; but I'm not hopeful.

I suspect the issue I have with the A4091 is that I yet to find an adapter that will convert from SCSI2 to SATA or IDE SSDs reliably.

I'm using an AEC-7720 with an IDE to SATA adapter and an SSD with the A4091.

The FastATA is not a DMA device so that at least shouldn't be a problem, but it may be incompatible for other reasons.

So, interestingly putting in 3.1.4 roms now makes the FastATA behave.

Some special sauce in the 3.1.4 roms have fixed that particular issue. I have a AEC-7722 with a scsi-lvd to scsi2 adapter and a ide to sata adapter (lol) and it did not work before with the A4091 but I'll give it another try - I am wondering if the 3.9 roms I got with the A3660 board are no good with my particular hardware.

What scsi.device is in your 3.9 ROM?

ah good question; I'd have to swap them again to check.

Hmm, looking at the A3660 ... I actually don't think I got the 3.9 ROM from that ... wow ... I have no idea where they're from now. LOL.

Has anyone tried a FastATA with a A3660 in a 3000? I've got a 3000/A3660, but I've been having issues with it and scsi. Was thinking about going this path to see if it would perform well.
