Just bought a SupraDrive 500XP

And I already love this sweet peace of hardware, even though it doesn't have a hard disk (yet), and only got 2MB of ram - And that leads up to my actual question

I would love to fill it all up, with the total of 8MB ram, but after hours of researching, I'm only more confused.
I know it has to be 1Mx4 DRAM chips, but as far as I can see, there's like a bunch of different variants, all with different specs and prices. Can you please help?

yep.

i modified mine to use memory from a 8mb simm module.its dirt cheap if your any good at soldering.

the expensive route is 1Mx4 DRAM ic's in dil package's,any will work between 100 and 60ns(16 ic's for 8mb)

if you can get them, any on this list in a 20 pin dil package:

Oh my, this looks amazing, a very nice modification indeed

I can only dream of ever accomplish something like that

I'm so impressed how "simple" the Amiga actually is, it's astonishing...

Roy! You blow me away with all your skills... brilliant stuff!

EDIT: This has given me a really good way of fixing a poor butchered c64 and its hacked up character rom! The dam thing was cut and the re-soldered onto legs. The whole thing was a nightmare that even I could not look at, proper ebay hacked up job.

So the plan could be, round sil sockets with the chip carefully placed on top like the ram you did. I will solder it right or not at all. Hopefully it survived the torture it went through by the previous owner.

Sorry to revive an old thread, but I may come into possession of a Supradrive 500XP with 2MB (I believe because it was not upgraded).

@roy bates - the mod looks great. I presume you had SOJ variety? The link on:
http://www.amiga-stuff.com/hardware/1mx4-dram.html

I presume any of the chips could be used? I'm just wondering what version is 'plug and play' without modifications if you know the link to the 'proper RAM' needed to upgrade?
