Best Amiga Settings for Retro gaming (Shaders, Bezel and more)
just kidding...
Hello! I've read this forum for a couple of days to find the best experience to play Amiga games on my 27" Monitor . I tried a lot of things and now i'm very satisfied with the results i got (for now) My goal was to play in front of my Monitor and having a nice image quality. At first tried full screen but there was to much blockiness because of the small image resolution of the Amiga games. Changed to 4:3 but this didn't helped. I didn't want to play in window mode too. Here are the FS-UAE settings i currently use: Check Video is set to fullscreen and scale is set to Auto+border I found the nice looking 1084 Monitor bezel over at the FS-UAE website and thought i give it a try. Ambermoon made a great looking Bezel i really like. Thx for that. Next i noticed that a couple of games seems to use a NTSC resolution using this Bezel. there was a big black bar under the game image. So i edited the Bezel zoom config and set the zoom to auto+border To get rid of the sharp blockiness pixel i tried several shaders . The one i liked most is the crt-easymode shader . So i installed it. What i didn't liked was the fact that you can still noticed the CRT grid even on bright areas. I remember the opposite from the past (i might be wrong). I also wanted some more glow. So i edited the config settings of FS-UAE and set low resolution to zero I also tweaked the shader setting to add more glow Here is the result. Please watch in 1080p fullscreen ( a few details are missing during video compression but most are still there) [ Show youtube player ] Hope you like it. Thx to @FrodeSolheim @guest.r @Ambermoon and this forum! Rends EDIT: after playing in the dark the shader brightness settings seem a bit to high. I‘m down to 1.5 from 1.8 ( 1.0 is default) guess it depends also what brightness setting you use on your real monitor settings. So playing around with this entry might be useful. This is very impressive. Are you using special version of crt-easymode ? I tried retroarch version of this shader and can't get it to work. In what folder in fsuae should it be placed? Can you upload your shader somewhere?

Looks nothing like a CRT. Where's the scanlines?

1. Looks like the mask isn't scaled properly due to using a Bezel.
2. Not all CRTs shows clearly visible scanlines like a PVM/BVM monitor. 3. Don't use Youtube to showcase anything. The uploaded videos are compressed to hell anyway. |

Where can I find the bezel you are using? Tried to google it, but couldn't find it.
EDIT: Nevermind. I found it |

I.e., if you are recording an Amiga, record it at least in 720p, not 244p. Keeping the emulated/captured machine resolution is a guarantee that the image will be crap. By doubling/tripling the pixels and increasing the resolution, the per-emulated-pixel resolution of the video increases significantly and with it its perceived quality. Obviously this does not apply to the linked YouTube video, it is already in 1080p. ![]() Last edited by ReadOnlyCat; 05 June 2019 at 02:49. |

It has nothing to do with the resolution. It's about bitrates, encoding and the compression used by YouTube. Which smears/blurs fine details away. Please don't start an extra discussion. There is no need for that. Really.

Ok, you don't get it... at all. But yes, this stupid discussion is now over. At least from my side.
