Often only the first disk is modified by crackers and the disk 2,3,.... of a game are the same for different cracks/versions. Also important, the [a] is some kind of a time-stamp.

Still a project in the work since i had also some thousand disks left after a Tosec scan and i'm still renaming them for Tosec inclusion...

In future we will have a tag in the Tosec names for scene original dms releases!
Please keep your dms files as they will become important. I have most of my dms files with AGA stuff sorted in that threat, more to come, but it's very time consuming and i spend my time preferable in renaming of unknown disks.
Personally i think it's very important to have the correct set of disks from a crack. The sets are spread amongs the [a]'s in the Dat and that is soooo awfully...

agreed. most of the multidiskers got shuffled when they were uploaded somewhere on the web. also all the disks with saved highscores. there the original bbs upload could kill a lot of [a] in the collection. then we only have to get rid of all the heroic startup sequence edited "releases" and the ones from the weel known crackstealers. and end up with a nice collection.

anyway to be honest this is exactly what i do atm with all my archives for my own enjoyment.
