Supercars 2 on Amiga 1200 - Orginal Disks Issue

Hey guys

Does anyone know of any issues running Supercars 2 original disks on the A1200?

When I run it i seem to get a currupt copy protection page as attached.

I have tried relo kick and v 1.4 without caches but same issues.

I have a stock A1200 with 8mb memory upgrade and WHD IDE inside, but I am running this from the floppy.

I have tried now 2 original disks and both do the same? I also noticed that the game after a few seconds loading has a deep drive noise but continues to load ok other than the protection pages.

Anyone know if this works on A1200 from original disks or have any other ideas what could be at fault?

Thanks guys

Pete

It is either a AGA/020 compatibility issue or your disks are faulty/damaged.

You could try in emulation whether the game works on an AGA/020 machine.

You should inspect and clean your floppy disks. Even better, use something like Greaseweazle to dump it and view the image in HxC to see if there are any damage.

I just tried the Super Cars II IPF image in emulation of a stock A1200 and it loads to the copy protection screen without any corruption.

So I suspect your disks are bad and need cleaning and/or restoring.

Thanks Guys. Feels a little unlucky to have 2 copies of the game and they both show the same error? Unless maybe its the drive, but it seems ok with everything else.

For those trying emulated, try it without waiting for the blitter which has the possibility of masking a problem.

Thanks for the tip. I tried it with disabling "Wait for Blitter" and it loaded the copy protection screen without any graphics corruption.

So I tried an external disk drive, of course that wont work as it wont boot from DFO. Classic!

Amiga is stock, 3.0 with 8MB Fast RAM Memory Expansion from amiga kit.
recapped.

All other loading screens work fine, but with or without relo kick it doesnt work.
I tried boot options and disabled cache which helps the same as relo 1.4 in disabling cache and sound plays perfect, but still not working protection screen.

I am going to assume noone ever played the original supercars 2 disks on an Amiga 1200 then as it wont work. Did everyone use patched/hacked copies back in the day?
Oh wont someone think of the poor developers!

Without doing an image dump of the disks and putting it through an analyser, we can't rule out that the disks are damaged in some way. The test in WinUAE suggests that it should work.

I would highly recommend getting a Greaseweazle - it can be used to dump/archive and restore floppy disks at flux level.

Alternatively, you can send me your disks and I can check and restore it for you. PM me if you are interested.

unless there's an extra protection track on track 1 (not sure), supercars 2 can be copied with a normal amiga drive (standard gremlin MFM track). So MFMWarp should work on an IPF, then write back using a normal amiga.

... or use a crack, or use the whdload version, ... or use the AGA version...

it uses the regular Shaun Southern MFM track format, but it has also the dreaded Protoscan $4124 longtrack as key tracks, that an Amiga drive cannot copy.

try to install your original disks with whdload installer for Supercars 2.

RAWDIC will tell you if there are any track error.
