Finally after a few hours of trying, I have finished the Atari ST version

...wasn't easy:
  • Found the Shaman.
  • Found the Genie.
  • Found / retrieved the 3 eyes from the sisters / statues.
  • Killed / retrived the bones from the Centaur (this changes each game; could have been the Skeleton or Yeti).
  • Killed the Black Prince (which stops his armies attacking Damaron).
  • etc...
I won't post screenshot unless people want me too?

Anyway, had loads of fun playing this

Thanks again meynaf for the awesome port

The graphics and sound are definitely not as good on the ST, but there quite a few more game play options (on par with the C64 version).
I believe Bob Jacob said that his favorite version of Defender of the Crown was the ST as it was the most polished. I only played it a couple of times, but it has Greek fire and disease catapult options, plus one can add more catapults for combat. The character strengths and weaknesses are more balanced like the C64, IIRC. I didn't play it more than a few times as I'm more familiar with the Amiga version and the differences didn't stand out that much.

Likewise, I played Defender of the Crown II a few times and actually liked the original game better. Maybe the game loading time took longer? I think the strategy changed a little as well.

On WinUAE The game can also be played from a full Workbench RTG screen or a second PAL monitor as in the screenshot

Given the XMas season, I don't have much time to correct/debug (in context) the French translation that has been integrated (even if my first draft was re-read by meynaf).
I will resume it in mid-January 2019.
If in the meantime people are playing the French version and want to submit modification ideas, send me a PM .

Anyway, I would like to thank three people :
- meynaf (for the conversion - quick and excellent job ! )
- DamienD (for the 1st coder's motivation)
- C. Johansson (for the 2nd coder's motivation)

@Damien : Well done for finishing the game !
This game is not an easy one !!!

Hear, hear - awesome effort gents!!!

I just hope I get a chance to boot up this ST port on my A500/1200 before the year's out, so I can experience it first-hand and then knock up a HOL entry. Got so much on atm on all fronts, it's not funny!

I can give you multiple screenshots for this purpose; including the end sequence

Very nice job with the port! Runs very well, and I am glad you fixed that Life bar, looks much better!

I updated the HD version with WB nice icon, in the zone.

No, as the Amiga version the BEST version ever.

Done! Made a menu on the boot disk ADF. You can pick English or French on the disk to view readme and launch the game. In the Zone!

Better if meynaf answers you but the UK texts are still in the Zone. You can grab and translate .

Replacing texts is tricky. French translation required many code changes. Texts didn't fit anymore, or were displayed at the wrong place.
In addition out-of-context translation isn't recommended, especially for dialogs.

Exactly, that's why I asked if it was possible.

Hello,

Very good job for this adaptation / translation in French !!

Is it possible to be able to translate other games directly from the Amiga versions such as It "It Came from the desert", "Rocket Ranger", "Defender of the Crow" ?

Thank

That's very possible. Just find someone who is able and has the time and will to do it (that's the hard part).

@New Sky
Maybe you could prioritize items, for example 1) Rocket Ranger 2) Defender Of the Crown 3) IT came from the Desert since it unlikely all three translations will happen simultaneously. Also, there is no shame in mentioning whether you would be willing to donate some money for it to happen or not, maybe it could help in terms of ahem... will to do it. Personally, I may contribute a little, but the two of us probably won't raise enough monies for that hypothetical coder to emerge from the burrow .

@meynaf
So, the fact that Cinemaware use some kind of Mac format for the aforementioned games doesn't make it more difficult to decompile the code ? Just curious.

Hello,

Thanks for the answer !

That's why I was asking... Without taking into account that the data files for Rocket Ranger are copy protected on floppy disks.

Maybe other games as well ?
