Gotek Drive with usb 3.0 stick problem
Hi, I'm new here but not to the Amiga.
Recently got back into the scene with an Amiga A1200 and got myself a Gotek drive to replace DF0:, it's flashed Amiga compatible and works fine with USB 2.0 memory sticks but I recently got a stumpy little Sandisk USB 3.0 stick and it just does'nt want to read at all on the Gotek so wondered if anyone here had the same issue and wondered if there is a fix? I understand that USB 3.0 is fully backward compatible with the exception that it draws more power and wondered if this might be the problem? (I'm using an original A1200 PSU) |

I have a problem with my gotek drive and few generic USB sticks. All my NONAME sticks do not work at all and are USB 2.0 (work fine on PC)
The only one I got to recognize is LEXAR brand. So you can see that not all USB sticks are created equal. And on another note, I have a problem with USB 3.0 portable HD with my PS3, so it looks like the new USB standard is not that backwards compatible. |

Mmm that could be quite costly. Would anyone be able to suggest on in particular memory stick that might work?

Anyone know of a fix? I was hoping to get the Sandisk working as it's nice and unobtrusive, if it's to do with the power usage I was wondering if the drive could be updated via a simple electronic fix to supply more power to the usb port.

It's not worth the hassle. Just get a usb2 stick. There's nothing to be gained from using usb3 sticks.

Maybe a silly question - but these sticks *are* FAT formatted, right?

Does that sandisk have that silly u3 app stuff on it? If so that can cause issues. With u3. The usb usually has 2 partitions and one acts as a cdrom to be bootable

Maybe it would be nice opening a thread with a list of fully compatible USB sticks. These USB drives are getting more and more famous.

I have got my Gotek working, it was the selector program that i had download from where my instructions had suggested. I notices the file size was only 332K I downloaded another one that was 880k from a different source and it all works!
The memory stick i use is a SanDisk 8GB Cruzer as suggested above. |

I use a SanDisk 8GB Cruzer, the same as suggested above and it works OK. I will test it with a Trascend 32GB 3.0 and with a Kingston DataTraveler 100 G3 32 Gb this evening when I get home. I will report back.

Here are my test results:
4 USB key tested: 1) USB 3.0 Kingston DataTraveler 100 G3 32 GB. Works OK 2) USB 3.0 Trascend JetFlash700 32 GB. Works OK. 3) USB 2.0 Sandisk Cruzer Fit 8GB. Works OK 4) USB 2.0 Sandisk Cruzer Blade 16GB. Doesn't work with Gotek (but OK on PC). So, maybe is not a problem with USB 3.0 but yes with some USB keys... I have been having problems, i have working gotek in a500. I have usb 4gb cruzer, works great for about 4 hours, then start getting corrupt files on usb, reformat copy files back over and sorted. But maybe its from removing usb when amiga is powered on, think probs started then, will have to try.

I thought about adding an "eject" button to the front of the Gotek drive wired between the 5v line to USB so I can boot from CF card without having to remove the USB stick or select an empty slot, anyone done this? |
