Best MP3 Music Player for TF1230 (50mhz)

I have recently bought a TF1230 (50mhz) for my A1200 and want to play MP3 music on it. I know playing MP3 music is the best to have at least a 040 or a 060 or PPC/Vampire.

But what music player is the best for it for this card or which extra stuff is the best to configure. And yes "MAS Player Evolution" I heard of, but is no option for me at the moment. Many thanks for your input in advance!

You have two possible choices if you don't add extra hardware : pre-decode your mp3s and play the resulting wave files, or play them directly and accept a significant quality reduction.

I would like to hear detailed suggestions, like which player is the best? Do I need additional libs? Do I need to save the MP3's on a particular way? etc.

As a player you should use songplayer v 1.53 (the v1.62 is buggy).
You also need the mpega020.library (download the mpega_library.lha archive from aminet) and your mp3 files shouldn't be compressed with a compression rate higher that 128K (96K would be better).
Without doing other things (ie moving files from a folder to another, using a browser or a ftp client, etc...) you should be able to decently listen to your mp3 files.

I used Delitracker2 a lot.
There exists a version of mpega.library especially optimised for 68030. You can find it here.
With that i could play even 320kbps mp3 on my Blizzard 1230. Note that, however, it still requires playing with frequency halved (22khz) and mono.

Are these bugs documented?

I'm not sure that the v1.62 if "officially buggy" but I'm sure that I did experienced many crashes using it on different systems.
Also, as far as I'm aware, all the CoffinOS releases come with version 1.53 of songplayer.

I'm running V1.62 and on my system it is stable but remember there was a setting in preferences that I avoid for some reason. Maybe XPK use or load to RAM.

Ok, i need some help here. I downloaded Delitracker2 the 030 file, and moved the lib to the libs and installed delitracker 2 and moved the deliplayer file to the deliplayer folder.

now what? I can not select the player from the list (not there) when I am loading in the mp3 I get an syntax error. Can I have a noob description of steps I need to do to get this working? Would be great!

Run Delitracker2 and open players window.
In the list, is there MPEG Audio ?
If not, click "Add". The "dt-mpega" player (the one from my archive, which is somewhat optimised in comparison to original one) should be there in the list.
So try to load it. If you can use SnoopDos program, just do it : it should tell what's missing.

Thanks for your reply:
I did what you mentioned, I can open players and select MPEG Audio and then I can config it. (What settings should I choose? AHI is also mentioned, something to do with that too?)
I cannot select/add dt-mpega, when I add it (its something I added it into the deliplayers drawer, so I can select it, but its not added to the delitracker players list (so I add it, but its not visible in the list).

However I can load the MP3 but its waaaaay slow when playing. So I did the snoopdos and I have lots of fails there....I will place 2 screenshots of the fails.

It's not linked with DT2 doing lots of things.
The dt-mpega player does not appear in the player list under this name, it's still MPEG Audio like the original version (player name and file name are two different things).

Now you have to do proper config for the mpega player. Don't select AHI unless you have a sound board, it would juste waste cpu time.
You can have same config as i have :
. F.Max to 25000
. Buffer 10s (max to the right)
. mono ticked everywhere
. quality = max (reduce if your machine still can't take it)

Best MP3 Player on AMiGA "very expansive":

- TKPlayer -> Lightweight
- AmigaAMP -> Convenient
- DaPlayer -> Play More Formats
- FFPlay -> Play All Common Audio and Video Formats

I enclose video showing TKPlayer and AmigaAMP on Amiga 3.9 BB4+AfA OS

My experience with SongPlayer was that it was very lightweight compared to the other players, but at some point around version 1.60, it became sluggish and unresponsive, so the advantage over other players was lost. I went back to 1.59 (IIRC) and stayed at that version since.

The question was specifically for using on a 68030 - it's a very different situation to using emulation with as much CPU speed as you want.

I don't have a great experience in mp3 players for Amiga but I can confirm that I've found Songplayer (v1.53) usable with a 68030 while AmigaAMP, in my opinion, requires a 68040/68060 in order to be enjoyable.
I couldn't find any other versions of Songplayer except v1.62 (the one on aminet) and v1.53. Where did you get v1.59 from? Could you, please, upload it in the zone?

this is correct and is the version also I use

Songplayer 1.53 was the last version done by the original author Stephan Tavernard which also is the author of the original mpega.library

the version on aminet was done by another monkey which just grab the original songplayer source code and added some bugs

for some unknown reason Stephan quit the Amiga development around the year 2001, He was one of the last true geniuses of the Amiga

For me, the best player has always been this one:
http://aminet.net/package/mus/play/TMLG

Which is almost always overlooked. Lightweight, capability of long buffers and accepts winamp skins.
Another good one is this:

I'll have a look the next time I'm on my machine... It could well be 1.53 and my memory letting me down.
