Amiga 500+ to VGA monitor

Hi

Just seen a product that claims to convert A500 video output to VGA but its just a d connector adapter? Is this even possible on an A500? Seemed cheap at £13 but is it junk?

Here's a link to the product in question...

Cheers

With those adapters, the monitor has to be able to output the amiga screen signals. Pasted from the item page :

Quote:
* The SVGA monitor must be able to sync to the Amiga's 15Khz signal (Most CRT monitors have no problem doing this). Adapter may vary in appearance.

At best, this is woefully inaccurate.
At worst, it's a flat out lie..

I have one of those and I can confirm it works. But as Devlin mentions, your monitor has to be able to handle it.

I tried it on 3 of my monitors and it only worked on one of them which is a high end Dell monitor. I have my A500 hooked up to VGA permanently now.

To clarify, yes, it is just a connector adaptor, it does not do anything to change the signal.

If you need actual VGA output an Indivision would be a good choice, but at many times the cost of course.

Seems a bit expensive for just an adapter. But I'd cough up if I knew it would work on one of my (LCD) monitors. They are quite old, not widescreen and can display the ST hires mode, which is a low scan rate signal. In with a chance, or not?

No, ST Hires is 31.5 khz.. Plain VGA...
If that monitor can run ST medium or lores, then you're OK.

My Toshiba 19-inch widescreen HD-LCD TV won't display the Amiga's monitor output via a passive RGB to VGA adapter.

Fortunately, it's splendid via RGB to SCART.

And your TV doesn't support RGB over scart?

Yes, though I only mentioned that as an afterthought, since it's not really on-topic.

It's a Dell U2410. Works really well with my A500 hooked up via VGA.

Some of the Dell monitors with HDMI input can sync down to 15kHz also on the VGA port. I also noticed this at my old work place where I had my A1700 with me. :-)

seems that HDMI+VGA presence in any LCD monitor is a signal that VGA can sync down to 15khz ....so can be named "full amiga monitor"
The big problem is to find a descent one with 4:3 aspect with those capabilities

Plus there are some of them with only HDMI+DVI...I wonder if those could accept amiga signals through a common DVI-VGA adapter
