final fight slave doesn't support the intro music
i think this just because the slave let just 512k chip and nothing else to the game.
but the game needs 1 meg to play the music. If you have 1 meg during the intro, it display "found extra memory" or something like that but with whdload it doesn't display it, that's why i think the slave was written to leave just 512 kb to the game. could somone correct the slave ? |

I had a go at doing that a few years ago and although it's simple to get the music working, it introduced a lot of access faults into the game. From memory, the 2nd or 3rd level started crashing quite randomly.
With no expansion memory, the game has a 256 byte table of each byte to speed up mirroring the graphics. With expansion memory, it sets up a 128k table of every possible mirror word combination. I never tracked down if this table caused the faults or not, but if it did, it might be possible to enable the extra memory for the music and turn it off for the game. I can dig out the original Dark Angel source code if someone wants to have a go. I don't have time at the moment. |
