Its the common service mode.

Put the set into stanby (with red light showing on front).

On the remote, press the following 1 after another (might take a few attempts).

i+ --> 5 --> VOLUME + --> [](TV)

If you get it right, the TV will come on with the characters TT-- in the corner. Then press MENU.

You need to select the GEOMETRY option.

On REMOTE, GREEN = UP, BLUE = DOWN and YELLOW = ENTER. Once you finish adjusting, press MENU a few times until normal TV appears (i.e. with no service menu or TT-- on the screen.

Avoid adjusting options, you dont know, as it could cause you major problems.

If you get stuck, or arent sure what im on about. Go here http://www.eserviceinfo.com/ and do a search for KV29X5D (I know its D, but it covers A also). That will give you a link to the service manual. This site also carries alot of service manuals, very handy.

Word of advice, have a notepad ready, the amount of times, I forgot values and had to re setup a few tv's. So if you right down everything you alter, you can always put it back, .

TVs are deliberatly set to not show all overscan area by default, else you would see extra encoded things not supposed to be part of the viewable picture. Stuff such as teletext and macrovision. Different TVs are set to show slightly different amounts by default it seems. My TV has settings in the service menu for overscan, and can get the full picture if desired.

PAL-720x576 (but 625 lines full overscan), NTSC 720x480 (but 525 lines full overscan). My LCD also matches these screenmodes to the amiga interlaced modes.

That PAL 720x576 should be really 720x568 ?

This is the WinUAE default for Windowed mode

Yes I was aware of that...

According to the RKRM Hardware Reference Manual:

Amiga Interlaced displayable lines of screen video for OCS:
PAL = 625-(29*2) = 567
NTSC = 525-(21*2) = 483

Horizontal NTSC + PAL for OCS:
Lores: 368 (25 words)
Hires: ??? (49 words) => probably close to if not exactly 720.

ECS has changed according to the book!

So it seems the Amiga is not so simple after all. I think only a few people can make sense of this. It seems 720x568 will let you see everything in OCS according to the above (of course Toni is almost always correct).

But regardless, to the OP, if the multisync TV/monitor can display PAL and NTSC underscanned and centered it should be able to display everything for those modes, otherwise you run into the possibility of lost image.

Note for the special ECS modes such as superhires, only some monitors display them properly, many LCDs skip pixels in their scaling. They are often very diffficult and misaligned/misscaled on my LCD as they are non-standard modes. Multisync CRT is probably best bet, or that super-elusive LCD that no-one knows which one is perfect.

A US NTSC Amiga can be used to view PAL software. It does take a little extra step though. As was mentioned before, PAL booters are what you need. There are some that can be used from WB, a boot disk or even installed on the bootblock. When the Amiga reboots it will be in PAL mode. No need to get a PAL Amiga for us Americans.

Isn't the CRT tube able to take different input video ?
On my TV i can attach a SNES and a Play2 and both are well displayed
Why it should be different for Amiga ?
I butted in when the discussion was of JackTheKnife's video resize thingy. I should have stated it was for him perhaps.
