A1200 G-REX correct PCI card assignment
Hi all!
As a long time Amiga user and learning stuff new everyday. I’ve managed to get hold of a A1200 G-REX (Revision 1? Only 1 DMA slot, no “neu” sticker or extra wires). At the moment I’ve managed to get this fitted into a Checkmate 1500 case with PCI extenders for the cards (Voodoo 3 - 3000, Realtek RTL-8029 @ ESS-1 Solo sound card), as well as making a few Mods to work together with a Checkmate 1500 PSU board. So both 1200 main orders and G-REX power on at the sametime. So my questions are: 1.. What should the PCI card assignments be? 2.. The ESS-1 solo sound card came with mixer software and ahi software (Same on the GREX.amigaworld site), but I’m not getting any sound through the sound card or by mixing via Paula using a phono to jack cable. What do I need to do to get this working properly? Or is the Ess-1 Solo not a good card to use? Note: I also own Mediator 1200 and 1200TX boards for my other Miggy’s. Will Ghostmix work here? Cheers |

As far as I know the card should just work. Not sure what you mean about assignments. If it doesn't work you can try it in another slot.
Ghostmix will probably not work. |

The Terratec Solo-1 is a bit of a mystery. So will have to play around with it. Not as easy as using a Soundblaster card as I’ve only 3 connectors. |

Yes. - Voodoo 3 in DMA Slot. If you're running Ethernet (Who wouldn't?) just make sure all you have is VooDoo in Slot 1 DMA & then try the Ethernet card in all slots for stability. Having owned a different Animal (G-Rex4000) I would suggest Slot 2 on your setup. Elbox Mediators in all Amiga's will have preferential "working" slots with different PCI card combinations & only because DMA on Elbox products is a "Fudge" to get there stuff to work. If you had DMA across all slots on Elbox Products, it wouldn't matter a toss. Hence what DarrenHD said.... |

I’m trying that now with Voodoo 3 in slot 1. There hasn’t been any instability with RTG 8029 in slot 5 and sound card in slot 4. I’ve 3 mediators (2 in 1200 towers and 1 in a Cyberstorm PPC/060 4000), so totally understand where you are coming from there With the mediators there plenty of info about regarding card assignments to which slot. Unfortunately with the G-Rex it’s rather lacking Happy so far with the g-Rex as it works rather well in a Checkmate case and with my 040/603e+ PPC card which is a Rev 0. Wouldn’t got away with a Mediator in a checkmate due to the size requirements |

RTL8029 should not need a DMA slot. RTL8139 does. I think the ESS does not require it either. You should have a look at the OS4 classic requirements. Those are all cards that don't need DMA (for a reference) as OS4 does not support the DMA hack of the various PCI solutions.
