After the wonderful ACA cards will we ever get any new accelerators made?
As much as I love my most amazing ACA 1231/42 I've been wondering if we will ever see someone (maybe even Jens) produce new, faster accelerators for the A1200 or any other of the Amiga range? Not having much technical knowledge I don't know what other options chip wise there might be to power an Amiga accelerator or if there is a final speed limit that can't be exceeded. Could old Pentiums be used as the CPU for an Amiga accelerator?
So, what are the chances of us seeing something new and FASTER? |

Pentium???
I think PPC is more Amiga than Pentium. PPC is still used in modern game consoles like WiiU and PS3. And we have Amiga OS ready for it. I think future is PPC accelerator with emulated 060 on board. But it can be expensive. |

I think the future is ARM or Intel. PPC will end up into obscurity. Just look at the x1000. Power as a 2003 G5 mac pro, and price as 2012 one. (My opinions, others might vary)

No, you are right. PPC Amiga is a niche in a nice market. Would be economically pointless to design new PPC cards. At least for retailer like Jens.

I am completely ignorant when it comes to the nitty-gritty technology side. I was just thinking of it like the Pentiums being an engine and the Amigas being cars - to some extent you can fit different engines in cars with some sodding around and get a perhaps more powerful car as a result.
I wish I'd gone for one of Jens' 1230/56 cards to start with but I was just too tight. Serves me right. Oh well, who knows... perhaps a few more years down the line another Amiga tech sage will amaze us all with a 100mhz+ accelerator!!!! |

In the close future we may see some 040 cards for a raw power lovers' bench fest.
Also, first FPGA accelerators (still weaker than 040 and 060, but getting close to top of the 030 line) for a connoisseurs' techie orgasms. |

I'm not thinking in a 060, but a 040 made by Jens, and with FPU should fly. I'm sure it would be as fast as a B1260, or near, the same way that just the ACA1231/42 is faster than the Blizard 030. Just my opinion.

FPGA based accelerators are the future. Low-cost, high-speed and open source cores.

i dont think a 040 card will ever be as fast as any 060 based card doesent make any difference who makes it. and that goes for the fpu as well, even if it has a fast memory interface. dont get me wrong though,it would nice. |

If I win the lotto I will pay to design a new Turbo Board for A1200/A4000's with fast 060 (100mhz) SATA/LAN/RTG(Radeon Mobility) & USB - maybe even sound!

I am a complet newbie, but is there anything new that would allow a warm 040 running at 100Mhz?

If we get some benevolent lottery winners here maybe they'll let us have their new, sleek, superfast wares at cost! LOL.

sorry i dident mean overclocked or anything, i meant clock for clock the 060 is faster. say you had an 040 at 50mhz(as an example,of cousre overclocked to the same clock speed because there was no 060@40mhz) the 060 at the same speed(clock cycles) is still faster, its just programmes like sysinfo thinks its a 040. and 060 at 50mhz is about 66mips and an 040 at 50mhz is what?...39mips? and the fpu is alot faster on the 060. |

fpu missing
I do hope there will be new accelerators as the ACAs in my opinion do miss one important thing : a fpu. Most raytracers use them or gain much speed of them so if your are also interested in things like raytracing you will need another card. This was the reason I also bought an old taifun after bying the aca 1230 and the aca 1231. So what about an aca 1235 with (at least optional) fpu ? Would be waiting for that

I would pay for a 68060 accelerator with the new faster RAM controller, even if it's a 68LC060 because I don't use FPU.
Especially if I could put the lid back on my trapdoor slot |

Amiga Fan
I donĀ“t think this would be the right thing for an Amiga fan (especially when interested in the golden oldies like Sculpt 4D, Lighwave, Turbo silver and so on.)
