A590 - POWER SUPPLY - Circuit

Can anyone link me to the A590 power supply schematics or circuit diagrams.

I've found the user manual etc for the A590 but so far I've had no luck find the power supply info

thanks

Pete

It is the same as a CD32 PSU and the 1541-II.

You can buy them very cheap

http://www.vesalia.de/e_psu1541iicd32a590.htm

Or use a PC PSU with an adapter

http://amigakit.leamancomputing.com/...roducts_id=901

Or modify your A590 to use the Amiga for power

If they are the same, here is a schematic for the 1541-II PSU. Should be pretty easy to compare and verify that it matches your unit.

AJK thanks for that but they're not the same. The A590 power supply has a voltage sense line on pin 3.
cheers

The A590 PSU is also a lot more powerful than the 1541-II PSU.

Peter, I recently found a power supply that says '1541-II, 1581' on it, but it is substantially bigger than the normal 1541-II power supply. I have used that on an A590. It says it is only good for 1A on the +5V line but I suspect that is underrated because the A590 seems to work ok and the supply does not get hot.

Hope it doesn't end in tears.. The type plate has the max currents printed on it for a reason. This is everyone's personal call naturally, I'm not the PSU police. :-D

Well the A590 does say 3.0A/5V and 1.0A/12V. I would suspect it would depend on the HD too, some of those old tank ones that sound like a 747 preparing for take off when they start up would probably be that worst case power consumption scenario.

Looks like I'm going to have to find another power supply and another 50 pin Scsi drive. Have you looked at the prices on those suckers recently. To bad no one does a XT to CF adapter.

The A-590 psu has a relay which only switches when the A-500 is turned on. So, it is different than the CD-32 or 1541-II psu.

If the psu is dead, first have a look if there is a big power diode ? I would have to open a A-590 psu to have a look, but this diode breaks down very often in A-500 psu. Also, I would check the big elcos.

Yeah there's a 400v (something uf) cap, can't recall the rating. The caps looked to have leaked but a check on them showed otherwise. Having said that there getting replaced anyway.
