Don't forget MAME if you're interested in coding some 2019 stuff for Sega scene - it has an excellent debugger

When we create demos for the MD we use BlastEm, it is the only one that can do the job right. It is open source/free as well.

How was this hardware not illegal to import? What was the price for a unit back in the day? The same price as 3 retail games?

Don't remeber the price, and most of them where send to me for free, back in the dayz i was the first doing intro's on it, so basicly i could join any release group i wanted. So i started with pong, they sended me always the newest copy unit, and later in Magical it was the same, when a new unit was there with more ram for the latest games they sended it to me to be sure the latest games where working.

Its emulation is good, but for some reason it crashes frequently on both my PC's so I just had to accept defeat and give up on it :P

How did you get information for programming the Genesis? Was there a Amiga E-Zine floating around with Console programming? Were other (Atari/PC) sceners also active? What development tools did you use? Do you still have any source?

Thanks

I know a game programmer from the sega, he gave me the programming manuals and a few sources from the devkit. I used asm-one and compiled the source and send it with a cable to the copie-unit.
and no i don't have any sources, neither sega and amiga, they got all lost

Hi

I reckon I have the best emulator in a PC for the Sega Megadrive .... cus it actually is a Sega Megadrive. I have two of them. Shame I can't run the PC and drive at the same time.

It's called an Amstrad MegaPC. So maybe I'm halfway to being able to back up my Sega games. Who knows.

You have to be very carefull with these machines cus they have the dreaded barrel battery inside. I was dead lucky cus the two I had had been stored upside down and the battery had run into the lid. Saved just in time. Problem also with Amstrads is the reliance on a dedicated monitor.

The Megadrive fires up almost instantly but with the slide open for the Sega it kills the computer so its basically two systems in the same tin box. Uses the standard Sega Megadrive controller.

I love mine it gets used quite a lot.... especially for Sonic. So addictive.

Just thinking whether you're onto something... store upside down! Save from leakage onto board... at least.
