MCAmiga released - filemanager inspired by norton and midnight commander

this is the most important new software for amigaos in 2020 (in my humble opinion)!

alb42 (author of muimapparium) released a file manager in style of norton / midnight commander.
there is a simple viewer and hex-viewer built in. you can also configure external viewers/editors.
mcamiga is able to browse/archive/extract/edit lha and lzx (if lha and lzx are located in c
textfiles can be edited within archives
besides mouse usage it is possible to navigate using keyboard!

mcedit is available for all important amiga systems:
AmigaOS3.x, 68020+, 4mb
AmigaOS3.x, 68000 (untested)
AmigaOS4 (except x5000)
Morphos 3.x
Aros i386 ABIv0
Aros ARM ABIv0
Aros x64 ABIv1 NonSMP

MCAmiga also works on boot without Startup-Sequence in 4 color mode;
you might need to set assign env: and t: variables before.

more information, download and sourcecode can be found here:

Looks pretty nice, but 4MB RAM required? That's insane.

MCAmiga v0.6 is available!

changes/bugfixes since v0.5:
fixed word wrap and missing last char in viewer
bottom menu line (like the original)
full screen (= own screen) via tooltype
scroll help text if needed
catch exception when calling external programs
unpack archive via tool menu entry
68000 version included

Great software indeed.

One question for anyone who knows. When I select a few files and try to lha or lzx them, I get the file name requester and the whole progress seems to go well and then I can’t find anywhere the lha file which I am supposed to have created.

Any clues?

My system is 3.1.4 with best WB and various 3.9 components. Runs great for a year now. Lha is 2.15 020 version. LZX I don’t remember the version. Both run fine in dopus or just in shell.

So was the produced archive there?

If not, can you reproduce this?

No it wasn’t there. I checked there and other dirs as well but couldn’t find it. I can reproduce it yes. It happens every time I try to make lha or lzx files in MCAmiga. Dopus works fine or even in shel.

The LHA file is in the window you have set as destination, you have done a test on the fly and everything works fine, see attached video.

With the original Norton Commander, I believe the archive would be created in the "source" directory and not copied to the destination directory. This behaviour makes much more sense, in my opinion.

Will take all that in mind and double check again all options when I get home.

Thanks for your help

Heya npagonis73,

As per "Rules & Help" - Signature (direct signatures are not allowed); can you please remove the Tapatalk signature?

Someone already reported this; hence why lilalurl removed it from your post above.

Cheers

i think, look and feel of mcamiga is intentional, as it should be some kind of norton- / midnight commander clone.
i like it, used norton commander back in the day on my msdos-machines and used midnight commander on linux!
