XII from Alastair Murray
Good afternoon,
does somebody possess XII? Or ever played or heard of XII? It is a shooting-game for 4 players simultaneously. I am interested in all games that have the option to play it with 4 players at the same time. So I looked for every Amiga-game that makes it possible. There exists a list with every Amiga-Game that supports a 4-player joystick-adapter. I found and downloaded every game. XII is available on aminet, but does not work. Until now I have not found a working configuration in WinUAE. I have also transferred it to a 880kB Amiga disk. But the Original Amiga 500 and 1200 behave exactly the same (Finish all software activity... OR xec-library, xii failed returncode 20). I asked the programmer Alastair Murray if he has a working version. But he lost all original files. I hope XII is not lost forever! A! |

Update:
XII isn't dead. I found the solution on https://www.lemonamiga.com/games/details.php?id=3986 ! You need the right path, dh1:amos_stuff/xii/ AND you need the mathtrans.library AND KickROM 3.1. A |

Yes, I noticed your comment there. That hardcoded path is a very lame error.

Invalid device name?
Hi!
I tried to do this: assign dh1:amos_stuff/xii Festplatten:4-Spieler/Probleme/XII, but it doesn't work. The message "invalid device name dh1:amos_stuff/xii" is shown while booting. Isn't it possible to do so? Thank you |

I upped an edited adf to zone.
Tested on an A500 (most common) + 68020 WinUAE config. Anything below 020 will cause a software error. |

@TurboRaketti
Try the edited adf I put in the zone. I added this assign to my startup-sequence (user startup) and it starts right up. Assign >NIL: XII: DH1:Games/XII |

Sorry, i did not notice that it is important to respect the exact syntax. Usually I know that I have to be precise. |

I upped the fixed adf to my user folder as
X II (1998-03-28)(Alastair Murray)(PD)[AMOS][68020]. Name and date is what's described on Aminet. https://aminet.net/package/game/shoot/XII |

I actually came across XII when I did a search for games by Alastair Murray, I know it tries to find files in a Hard Disk location, which is pretty useless if, say, you wanted to load this from a Floppy Disk, or another location or folder
So I had a poke around in the code, and managed to change this to "XII_GAME_DATA_DISK:" (yes I know it is a long name heh) which now can be Assign'ed to a folder or location Therefore making the Game fully playable from any location, I hope Alastair Murray does not mind me doing this modification, But I want to help make the Game fully playable again I have uploaded the Floppy Disk image in The Zone, please feel free to backup this image, ideally maybe replace the aminet version (if that is at all possible), as I would like to help everyone play this Game again Incidentally, I am reviewing this game in August, so it will be included on my Games Collection and Amiga Forever RP9 Files for you all, Thanks Last edited by Amiga600; 14 April 2024 at 16:12. |

I just hope it now allows many more to play this game, certainly without needing a hard disk, as it can now be basically installed anywhere provided the assignment is made before you run the game itself As I am going through the many PD/SW/FW Games, I have found that quite a few seem to have rather daft directory paths and/or use DF0: as a path etc, to load the Game files from, which is quite useless nowadays, so I do like to try and modify them so they can be loaded from an assignment if possible, failing that many do work in a Generic WHDLoad if other methods fail |
