Which is better (or what are the diffs between)
CyberGraphX Picasso96 EGS My system is a A2000 with an 030 and 16MB of RAM, GVP Spectrum... I wanna know which one is the better system to install... And also what are the differences that I should look out for Edit: Oh... and running OS 3.9 Last edited by BinoX; 07 July 2007 at 21:07. Reason: Additional Info |

What makes you say Picasso is the best?
(Is use p96 on the voodoo3 in my 1200 and CGX on my 4000 with CVPPC) But I still can't tell which is better... |

*the better* would be perhaps the better way to put it.
my main reasons being that P96 has a lot of tools and is simple to install and setup. arguably cgfx is a little more configurable. but this only from my experience using cgfx 3.0 |

P96 it is then.. 'cause Zetr0 says so lol
I just had a funny 5 mins cursing at the machine when the gfx card wasn't working... then I remembered... I had to set the accelerators RAM into extended instead of using the autoconfig area.. oops @ me.. lol |

Binox, I'm glad you worked it out
so it's not only me who thinks picasso96 feels somewhat snappier than cgfx4 ? (well at least with 030) |

@AMIGAZ
lol.. P96 is working great on mine, nice and fast Now if only I had something that I wanted to run on my A2000 lol... (I seem to enjoy the building/fixing and setting up of the systems more than I do using them these days... oh well... lol) @coze Thanks Well, its all thanks to your good deal on the gfx card that it was even possible Last edited by BinoX; 07 July 2007 at 23:21. @Binox
as a technical point I would be interested in seeing what EGS can do. after all the spectrum was one of the few if the only card that could do ALL the graphics modes ( CGFX / P96 AND EGS ) I have never seen egs, i would be curious about it personally. |

I found P96 the most user friendly.

OK.. an update...
Installed all of them and here are my (from a user perspective, not benchmark) views.. CGX(v4) and P96 seem to be similar in speed although CGX seems to be a little faster at 1024x768... EGS... well, it works, but it's not particularly fast, but it IS of course much faster than having just AGA(or ECG/OCS) rendered with their highest number of colours... So, unless you particularly need CGX... I'd say use P96, since it's basically free (Although I'm still gunna use CGX on my A4000 'cause I bought it.. lol) |

Windows are sluggish - everything feels slower compared to CGFX4. Also, I found Picasso96mode a nightmare compared to the CGFXMode program to setup new resolutions... looks like I'm stuck with P96 though, if I want to use the Mediator... Any ideas? I must admit, I have installed on a heavily modified system, but can't see any real reasons why P96 is being so slow. Steve |
