FPU 68882 40 Mhz and crystal 48 Mhz

Just a quick question,

I have a FPU 68882 40 Mhz but i can't get my hands on a 40 mhz crystal.
Can i use a 48 Mhz crystal with a 40 mhz FPU?

Hi José,

It's exactly that, i can't get any here in Portugal, if you have them i would be much thankful if you could hook me up with one.
I have to go to my parents place to bring you what i promised. I'll have it this week.

The 68882 in my Blizzard 1230-IV is rated for 40 MHz, but it runs fine at 50 MHz. So it should be good.

I'm afraid to try a crystal above 40mhz, so you're saying that you're using a 50mhz crystal with a 40mhz FPU?

Don't worry, I used to overclock a 33MHz '882 to 50MHz on my old A3630 and it didn't even heat.

Mine is a PGA FPU, i'll give it a try with a 50Mhz crystal and see what happens.
Do i have to do anything else?

Yeah. It's been rock solid since 1996. (That's when I bought the 1230-IV).
